Celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway worked with Olivia Palermo for ‘An Evening Honoring Valentino’ Lincoln Center Corporate Fund Gala on Monday, December 7 in New York, NY. See below for details on Olivia’s custom hair accessory and rope braid.

“Because of the romantic feeling a Valentino gown gives, I wanted to completely offset that with an edginess of latex and the severity of a super sleek, shiny rope braid.”

“I started off by parting Olivia’s hair in a deep center part, then with a little R + Co Chiffon Styling Mousse, I used a paddle brush to smooth her hair down and secure the part into place. Then, for even more of a hold and to eliminate all flyaways, I added Moco De Gorila Punk Squizz Hair Gel onto the hair. I used my Ibiza GL7 Hair Brush to bring her hair back into a ponytail and secured with a Bungee, then wrapped a small piece of latex fabric around the base to hide the Bungee.

Next, I cut a piece of the latex large enough to go around the head and act as a headband to really accent the ponytail, and just tied it in a knot at the nape. I finished the look off with a rope braid. Because I wanted absolutely no flyaways in this look, and to really see the definition of the rope-like shape, I added a little more gel into the ponytail. I twisted her ponytail all the way down to the ends and secured with an elastic.”

AFTERWARD…“Don’t forget – hair care is very important. When doing styles like this which require a lot of hold, I suggest using a clarifying shampoo like Kerastase Specifique Bain Clarifiant Shampoo to remove any product built up on the hair once you’re ready to move onto a new style. Then you can use a product like Huile de Leonor Greyl, which will quickly soften your hair and bring back moisture.”Makeup by Daniel Martin for Dior
