Kiernan Shipka at Ferragamo Rodeo Dr. Flagship Unveiling

Celebrity hairstylist Kylee Heath worked with Kiernan Shipka for Salvatore Ferragamo’s Rodeo Drive Flagship Unveiling.

“We were inspired by some photos where the hair was in a sort of faux hawk, and we wanted it to look cool and youthful but soft.”

“Starting on damp hair, I applied Oscar Blandi Jasmine Protein Mist and tough-dried it until it was about 80% dry, and went through with a round brush it to get some more volume. I put the front middle section back in a velcro roller to give that area some height, but also to keep it out of the way for later. When the hair was dry, I sprayed Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Heat Protect Spray and curled random sections with a 1-inch Sultra Curling Wand to add some texture.

Back / Bottom:

I wanted to work on the back first, so I sectioned off the left and right sides (around that roller), keeping the front of the hair completely out of the way. Starting at the crown of the head (right behind the roller), I created a small ponytail and secured it with an elastic. I then made a ponytail underneath the first one, and then one under that, all the way down the head until all of her hair was pulled up. This created 6 ponytails, all 1 inch thick.

Once the ponytails were secure, I lightly teased each one. Then, starting from the top I twisted and knotted them together down the back of her head and pinned into place. There was no set order here – I just wanted them to flatter her head shape and be messy, but not too ‘rock n roll’ – still pretty.

Front / Top:
Once the back looked how I wanted, I took down the front sections and roller. Starting in the center, I pulled all the hair from the front into an inside-out French braid.  After I finished the braid, I pulled it apart a little just to add texture. Finally, I twisted it back and knotted it like the ponytails, joining it with the lower ‘faux hawk’.
I finished by teasing any stray hairs and spraying with Shu Uemuras Sheer Lacquer Finishing Spray for shine and hold.
Creating this look with little ponytails makes it very easy to do at home. They provide a strong foundation that keeps the hair tight so you can work on the details afterward.”
