Emmy’s 2016 Sexy Cat Eyes

Carly Chaikin

Celebrity hairstylist Ian James and celebrity makeup artist Beau Nelson worked with Carly Chaikin for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 18th in Los Angeles, CA.

“We talked about the look to begin with and since she was wearing such amazing earrings and there was a lot of detail in the dress, especially around the shoulder area in front we wanted to have the hair behind her ears and behind her shoulders. Also, Carly wanted something not too glamorous, but we still wanted something shiny and healthy, but with a tiny bit of texture.”

I started out by blow-drying the hair straight with a flat brush. Then I parted her hair to one side. Next, I started building the texture in the back and used two different curling iron’s from Hot Tools. One three inch barrel just to curl the very ends and then I used an inch and a half curling iron just to curl the midsection only. I applied Acure Organics Dry Shampoo at the roots after I used the curling iron on each section. Then I used Paul Mitchell Super Clean Hairspray on the whole section. When I was using the Hot Tools curling iron’s I was wrapping the hair around the iron alternating the direction with each section. Once done I pulled on the hair after it was ironed to give it a more relaxed feel since I did not want it to be too curly. Then for the top section where the part is I sprayed the Paul Mitchell Super Clean Hairspray on to my flat paddle brush and brushed through the top sections of the hair to give it extra shine and to remove the flyaways. Also, she did not want it to be super flat to her head, so I left a tiny bit of looseness on top.”
“I wanted Carly to look like a classic Italian movie star. We went for a smoky feline eye in black and deepest grey, flawless matte skin, a slight peach flush and a demi matte nude lip.”

“To create Carly’s eye look I used Charlotte Tilbury Rock ’N’ Kohl eyeliner in Bedroom Black inside the rim of the eye and to create the feline shape. I then used NARS shadow in Pandora and Paris to set the liner in place and diffused the edges. On her eyelids I used a neutral satin texture flesh tone shadow from NARS in All About Eve. I then curled her lashes and added a few medium and short individuals from Ardell. I then applied Tom Ford Extreme Mascara in Raven. Brows were defined using the Anastasia Brow Pro Palette and the Smashbox Angle Brow Brush. For skin I used Tom Ford Traceless Stick Foundation in shades 4 and 5. I set that with Charlotte Tilbury Pressed Powder in medium. Cheeks were contoured slightly with Lorac PRO Contour Palette using the light and medium shades before applying NARS Blush in Gilda to the apples of the cheek blending slightly back towards the hairline. Lips were a peachy nude with Oribe Lipstick in The Nude.
