I love the unexpected color that pops with a jewel-toned smoky eye. By swapping black for cobalt, purple or emerald, you can take your eye look from basic to brilliant. Lea Michele sported such a look at the premiere of American Horror Story (an FX show we are DYING to get into!). The star’s makeup pro, Kayleen McAdams, tells The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. how to get the look.
“For a healthy, glowing look, I prepped Lea’s skin with Shu Uemura Instant Glow Cream. I then used Cle De Peau Foundation all over the skin, Bobbi Brown Concealer where needed, and Kevyn Aucoin Highlighter in Candlelight. I contoured her cheeks with Nars Blush in Luster, a sheer golden apricot color.”
“I wanted to create a smoky eye, but with a modern twist, using Purples, and grays. On the lids I used the deep purple from the Backstage Beauty Quad in Lovesong, and blended with the lilac sheen. I added a touch of slate in the crease before liner her eyes with a dark violet gel liner. To make the eyes pop, I applied two coats of Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir, a deep, rich black. Finally, we kept the lips neutral, using beth bender beauty’s Perfect Pout Lip shine in Paris is Burning.

Sienna Miller is known for her iconic sense of style—she’s a trend setter not a trend follower, or as we like to call it “a dancer to her own drum.”
“
Sienna Miller in Dramatic Smoky Eyes and Red Lips
So when she arrived at the Moet & Chandon Etoile Awards, honoring Mario Testino in London we weren’t surprised to see her break the beauty rule of eyes or lips, but not both. Miller’s strong smoky eye paired perfectly with her brick red lips and didn’t seem severe or overdone.
To re-create the look for your next big night take the actress’s lead: Create a perfectly smooth canvas for your skin, keep your blush subtle, your hair polished and simple and make sure you’re wearing a neutral color like white, black or nude.
To do a smoky eye like Sienna’s, and without all of the steps that can feel overwhelming, try using a smoky eye stencil. Click here to see how they work.

Kim Kardashian continues to take the lead in sexy, saucy smoky eyes, and even those who are beauty newbies are hot on the smoky eye craze, and wanting to know just how she does it. Her latest look in purple and gray’s was spotted at the 13th Annual Super Saturday event.

From a distance it’s hard to really see the detail, and colors, but when you take a closer look…

you see the purple hue that she used to soften the look, and give her eyes that special glow that everyone seems to love.

The easiest way to create this look says celebrity makeup artist Beth Bender is to start with your contour color in the crease ( a soft black or gunmetal) first, and then follow with your purple shadow, which in this case is more of a lavender with gray undertones.
“Blending these two colors together will give you the same look seen here on Kim.” Sweep the same lavender color underneath the bottom lid, and add a touch of black eyeliner to the rim if you desire. “Most importantly be patient if your first try turns out to be a beauty bust, remember Kim has had years of practice and even she too was once a newbie, says Bender”
The quickest and easiest way to create a smoky eye look is to have a kit that includes almost everything you need. For this look a smoky eye stencil will come in handy especially for helping with placement, size, and perfect liner underneath the eye. Beth recommends The KMA Smoky Eyeshadow Kit which includes both a lavender and soft black eyeshadow and comes with one set of stencils and brush.
Let us know what you think of Kim’s eyes. Are you a fan of the smoky eye or do you go for a softer summer look? We would love to know..

The Kardashian sisters’ famous for not only their reality shows, but also their men, have also gained media attention with their smoky eyes. While attending the Beach Bunny Swimwear runway show we couldn’t help but notice the three styles of smokiness each of them was sporting. Each did their own version of a smoky eye, but all eyes were on Kim and Khloe’s.
Big sister Kim’s smoky eyes are so popular that a search on google returns 117,000,000 hits to choose from. How crazy is that, but all true! Her smoky eyes get almost as much press as she does. In true Kim Kardashian fashion she went for a more heavily lined look, and softened it with gray shadow applied in the crease and on the outer lid.

To finish her signature eyes she added a shimmery beige-pink shadow to the inner corner of her eyelids and blended it with the gray. This instantly opened the eyes for a dreamy, eye popping effect.

The most dramatic of the three was definitely Khloe.

She went for a straight all-or-nothing black-rimmed and lined eye all done with a jet-black pencil. Just a soft wash of a charcoal shadow was applied to the outer corner with a winged, almost cat like point. To set the eyeliner underneath the eye she used a soft taupe shadow which acted as a veil to catch any bleeding liner.
Three sisters, three smoky eyes. Who knew they would carry so much weight in the world of beauty!
