Coming from a world surrounded by beauty, advertising , and first impressions it’s hard to keep up with all of the latest “in styles and trends.” What was “in” just a month ago is not necessarily “in” the following. Things move fast in that world. And when you’re a mother you just don’t have time or to be perfectly honest…ya just don’t care. But there’s the rub…If you’re out of the loop you could slowly become a fashion victim…not good.
Here are just a few thoughts on “how to stay updated” in the beauty & fashion world without making yourself insane…
Let’s start with Skin Care…Every girl or boy should have a big fat jar of Vaseline in their medicine cabinet. It is ever so helpful for dry and irritated skin, removing make-up and so much more. (I love to slather my feet with Vaseline just before bed. If you slip a pair of cotton socks over your feet even better!) Witch Hazel is a must since it is a great astringent and helps to soothe irritated skin. Many pharmaceutical products contain some form of it. My Nana always had a bottle of witch hazel in her bathroom. (a smell that to this day makes me smile:) SPF of 20 or higher…don’t even think about leaving the house without this…
For beauty must haves a good Mascara is essential since it can make or break the way your eyes pop. My fav is Max Factor’s 2000 Calorie. I get more compliments…and let me tell you…my naked lashes are nothing to write home about! And I can’t live without my Beth Bender “Get in Line” Eye Stencil Kit. Another beauty tool that people stop me on the street about. It takes 2 seconds to get the perfect eye liner. I don’t leave my house without it…(it’s my other SPF, ha,ha…) These are all under the category of Must Have…!
Now regarding Fashion… I hate to break it to you but that leather jacket hanging in the back of your closet gathering dust is not coming back in style…sorry…I know it’s hard to accept…but do yourself a favor…get rid of it. Take a weekend to go through your closet…you’ll have a laugh…I promise! When you are done you’ll feel 20 lbs. lighter. The only clothes that will never go out of style ( at least for the next 20 years) are simple, classic items such as: low to medium heeled black pumps, Levis or Lee jeans (or any brand that’s been around for years), a simple denim jacket, a solid colored skirt, flip flops, sneakers…(get the picture)
Come on…it will be fun…This is what I looked like before I cleared out my closet!

Last Sunday during the MTV Movie Awards here in Hollywood, Te-see and I had the pleasure of spending the evening with celebrity artist Jake Bailey, and MAX Factor’s go-to beauty accomplice to the stars.
Jake’s journey to celebrity artist was no overnight success as some might think, born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jake was inspired at an early age by the beautiful women in his family and the makeup they used to transform themselves. He began to get involved in local plays at school, and in the community, as well as becoming the makeup guru backstage. At the young age of 18, he touched down in NYC in the mid-nineties where he literally began pounding the pavement, and with one goal in mind, to perfect his craft and pursue his career in beauty.
As luck would have it, during a night out at the then famous Bowery Bar in Manhattan he spotted Kevyn Aucoin and without hesitation went up and introduced himself. of course Kevyn being his usual sweet self was flattered by Jake’s eagerness to become a successful artist, and asked him to apprentice him where he learned the art of makeup artistry from the ground up, working vigorously at New York fashion shows and events.

Jake Bailey
After working with Kevyn for a year, he was ready to break out on his own and signed with one of the biggest agencies for makeup artists. Desiring to work on red carpet beauties and add glamour to his body of work, Jake moved to Los Angeles to create gorgeous looks for celebrities that let their own individual style come through, but still have the Jake Bailey touch.
Jake has become one of the industry’s premiere celebrity makeup artists in Hollywood and New York. He has worked with almost anyone you can think of, including Angelina Jolie, Kyra Sedgwick, Mandy Moore, Brittany Snow, Paris Hilton and Katherine McPhee to name a few, and most recently was named MAX Factor’s Celebrity Makeup Artist. He continues to create stunning looks from the red carpet, and is always happy to share his best tips, and tricks for beauty.
We just loved Jake, and felt like we had known him for years. His passion for creating gorgeous looks, and his love of color have inspired women everywhere to have fun, and create their own person style, on and off the red carpet.

Want to create the some of the Red Carpet Beauty looks from the MTV Movie Awards? Well, here’s your chance. In an intimate setting, Beth and I got to hang with the talented, and oh-so cute Max Factor Celebrity Make-up Artist Jake Bailey. He went over step by step with me how he created Lo Bosworth (from The Hills) look while we enjoyed delicious Mojito’s, fabulous food, and watched the awards.

Jake wanted to focus on Lo’s eyes so he used a lot of individual lashes, layered them with Max Factor’s 2000 Calorie Lash Plumper Mascara and then curled them with an eye lash curler. He used a little slate color by Chanel on her upper lids since he believes that when you are doing a big lash look the rest of the eye should be clean. “The young girls want to have a look, but not to be over done,” says Jake. Then he used Max Factor’s Gilt Complex Eye Liner on her lower eye line. A bronze color to define and balance the eyes without bringing the eyes down. According to Jake this completes the eyes for a WOW look!

Color Genius Foundation by Max Factor was used on Lo’s face, followed by a cream bronzer by Chanel, and a thin veil of sheer powder that’s absorbent and can be left alone for hours. He recommends carrying clean & clear tissues to blot your face in case it gets shiny. Here’s a hint to help the process: wrap the clean & clear tissue around a make-up sponge then gently blot your face.
And last but not least Jake used Sweet Tart Lip Color by Max Factor’s Vivid Impact Line. A pinky coral not too orange color that looks great with natural tawny skin.

Hanging with Jake, and all the gals from Marina Maher was a blast. Not only did we learn how “to get Lo Bosworth’s look,” but we also swapped industry stories and marveled at the various “Red Carpet Beauty Looks.”

We loved Jake and look forward to hanging with him again…(I wanted to take him home with me but Beth wouldn’t let me…)
Peace Out…

This summer you might want to add a little pop to your pucker as you’re walking down the isle. Shake things up a little! After all it is summer and color is everywhere…Hot colors include shades of red, orange reds, and fuchsia. Check out Max Factor Long Wear Lip Color, Cover Girl Long Wear Lip Color, Avon’s Perfect Wear Extralasting Lipstick. These lip colors will stay on long after “You may kiss the bride…”

With a veil like this you can focus all of the attention on your lips and keep your eyes looking soft and subtle. Use Beth Bender’s Get in Line Eye Liner Stencil Kit to help you to achieve this simple eye look in minutes! It’s so easy to use you won’t need to hire a make-up artist. (With the extra money you can splurge on a bigger wedding bouquet.)
Remember girls, keep a journal close by. This way you can document all of your wedding tasks and check them off as you go. I found it helpful to glue photos of make-up looks I wanted to recreate for my wedding day into my journal as a reference. It made it easier to match colors in the store when I was shopping for my big day.
Happy Wedding…

A full pucker will always be in…kissable, smooth, soft and plump are just a few words used to describe favorable lips. Unfortunately, not all of us are born with them. But thanks to the new Max Factor Vivid Impact Lip Color and coordinating Vivid Impact Lip-liner, full lips can be created easily.
The new Vivid Impact Lip-color is sleek and preferred over most other lip color for a premium look. Their rich formula has shea butter which acts like a lip balm to seal moisture into your lips and the luscious conditioners increase wear-ability that will keep the true color intact. Max Factor’s new modern packaging features a “show-shade” button which showcases the true color inside so when you are picking a color it’s fun and simple!

Max Factor Vivid Impact Lip Color is available in a variety of designer colors for the Diva in you…Walmart, Ulta and drugstore.com sells this fabulous item for around $8.00. So, go get your lips on…

As you know I’ve been on an endless search for the perfect mascara. I’ve tried so many…The prices ranging from $5 to $25 and I gotta tell you there’s not much of a difference. I found that some of the higher end mascaras are either too clumpy or too dry. However, I am happy to finally announce that I have found a mascara that I truly LOVE!!!
Lash Perfection Volume Couture by Max Factor rocks. It’s not clumpy and it’s got the perfect consistency for my lashes. The brush is easy to use and easily covers from the base to the tips of my lashes. My lashes aren’t thick so the fat brushes do not work for me. Lash Perfection separates, defines and adds volume to my lashes for a “WOW” eye opening look.

This mascara is hypoallergenic, ophthalmologically tested, won’t smudge or smear, and washes off easily...(which is very important to me since I’ve found that when it doesn’t I have to scrub harder and I end up losing lashes.) Get the look you want with Lash Perfection Volume Couture by Max Factor.
For more info or to purchase this fabulous mascara visit Max Factor. It’s also available at Ulta, Walmart, and Drugstore.co

Recently Max Factor released their new Vivid Impact Highlighting Mascara nationwide. It’s a double-ended mascara that highlights your lashes and draws closer attention to a woman’s eyes. The defining base coat will lengthen your lashes as well as add volume, as the highlighting topcoat adds depth and a hint of color.
I wore the Vivid Impact Blazing Black with Magenta Highlights for my 30th (ha, ha…) and my lashes looked amazing. This summer why not add a little shimmer to the ends of your lashes for a more flirty look! Max Factor has a variety of highlights to make your eyes flash…To get your desired look first use the patented iFX brush, coat lashes with the base color for up to 70% longer looking lashes and great separation. Then apply the iridescent highlighting top coat to create an eye-popping look with an extra twist of color.

Colors include: moonlit black, karat brown, burning bordeaux, and blushing blue. Vivid Impact Highlighting Mascara not only provides incredible highlights and is more eye catching but it will also hold that gaze 3x longer than traditional mascaras! So, go ahead and unleash the Diva in you...
Check out Max Factor Vivid Impact Highlighting Mascara for more info.
Good things are coming girls…
