Hello Dollface’s Cindy Bokma on her fabulous facial at Thibiant Beverly Hills

If you are looking for a fantastic facial in a luxurious location, may I suggest Thibiant Beverly Hills? Located on a busy street in the heart of Beverly Hills, Thibiant is very deceiving. What looks like a tiny storefront actually extends quite far and the salon is enormous with two stories and several treatment rooms.

I was early for my appointment so I changed my clothes and got comfortable in a spa robe, then went to relax in a massage chair and drink a cappuccino. The waiting area is a soothing space where a gentle waterfall provides a relaxing sound, apples and cookies await you and a coffeemaker instantly makes you espresso, cappuccino, and several other beverages. There was also a pitcher of lemonade and refreshing spa water with cucumber and citrus slices.

Within just a few minutes, my aesthetician, Dena, came to get me. She brought me to a room painted the most lovely serene color of robins egg blue, soft music played and the room was a comfortable temperature. I worried that I’d fall asleep!

My aesthetician removed all my makeup and took a close look at my skin to determine which treatment would be best. She decided on a micro dermabrasion followed by extractions (Dena took her time was very thorough!) and a hydradermie which is a treatment that puts oxygen and moisture into the skin.

That was followed up by a lovely chamomile mask that was warm upon application. She left me for a while to rest and I nearly fell asleep. Its quite rare that I get a facial so I enjoyed every second. Dena took her time with my skin and applied delicious smelling products that comforted my skin and when it was time to leave, I didn’t worry that I needed cover-up and foundation, my skin was flawless.

The products she used were from the Thibiant line, very luxurious and they smell amazing. The Thibiant salon has been around for thirty six years and each aesthetician is trained by the methods pioneered by Aida Thibiant who was considered the “Face Saver to the Stars”. Mrs. Thibiant sold her spa in 2008 to Dr. Harry Glassman, a renowed plastic surgeon. At Thibiant, you can get Botox and  fillers, fractional laser and other treatments. Take it from me who has had a bad experience in the past, if you want a facial, a treatment or plastic surgery, do your homework and go to someone with an excellent reputation like Dr. Glassman

There’s an entire menu of spa services including hair cuts and color, makeup, nails, waxing, a variety of skin treatments and more. Thibiant is a one-stop service center for all things beauty! I’d love to spend a day in there getting pampered from head to toe. In fact, I hear Jennifer Aniston is a frequent guest here! I’m sure the salon is ultra busy during awards season when celebs want their skin to be in tip top shape.

Before I left Thibiant, I was sent off with some products including a Cleansing Milk that removes all traces of makeup yet leaves skin very soft, a Collagen Gel serum that gives skin a wonderful boost of moisture and a Gentle Exfoliating Polish that lightly buffs skin and keeps it radiant. Each of the products are used sparingly but give results that you can see after a few days.

A few days after I had my facial, I looked in the mirror and realized my skin was totally  clear with very few visible imperfections. I definitely had to thank my aesthetician at Thibiant for giving me such a glowing complexion. Now, how soon can I go back?

MAC Prep And Prime Must Haves For Looking Your Best This Fall

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 30th August 2011

A few things I’m currently using from MAC includes the Prep + Prime Lash Serum, the Fortified Skin Enhancer and the compact version of the amazing Prep + Prime translucent powder. Let’s take a closer look…

The Lash Enhancer has a fantastic smooth and small applicator brush which does an A+ job of lining the top lashes. I apply this before bed every night. My lashes do look thicker which is what I’m after. Long, thick lashes that grow while I sleep. This doesn’t irritate my eyes at all and a small amount is all that’s needed.

The Fortified Skin Enhancer contains an spf 35 and is a light primer that adds a bit of radiance to skin. I use just a dot of this by my eyes, where I feel that I need the most help, dark circles and shadows are brightened instantly but not obviously. And makeup is all about the whisper of beauty, if you get my drift. Subtle!

I cannot rave enough about the Prep + Prime  compact. True story, I put the original Prep + Prime translucent loose powder in a small, very small, container and it looked just like cocaine (or what I imagine it to look like). While traveling, I was nervous it would be snatched from the security check, being mistaken for something else,  and I’d lose my powder! Luckily everything was safe and I got to travel with my beloved powder. The only thing you have to worry about with the compact is bringing your own sponge or brush for application as it does not come with one.

Get Sexy Healthy Hair and Repair The Damage With BabyFace Pure Protein Hair Treatment

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 16th August 2011

I’ve been on the fence about a Brazilian Blowout or Keratin treatment for a long time. I keep going over and over the pros and cons of getting these treatments. Pros is definitely less frizz, no more heat styling to get smooth locks. Cons is the price, the fact I’d have to repeat the process every few months and I am concerned that my hair would be limp and stringy after the treatment. And if its one thing this girl does NOT want, its lank hair!

Enter BabyFace Pure Protein Hair Treatment. This concentrated protein treatment can be used from home, tames damaged and frizzy hair and takes less than an hour to do.

BabyFace Pure Protein Hair Treatment

Here are the details from the website:

To repair the damage, you need to replace the missing keratin protein. Our collagen treatment is a unique product, and is the only one of it’s kind on the market that is just pure protein, nothing else. It has a low molecular weight so that it can work it’s way down to the cortex and protect the hair shaft from breakage by replacing the hair’s lost protective cuticle.

You can read the entire description by going here.

The first time I did this treatment, I did it wrong (applied to sopping wet hair)  and accordingly, did not see the results I was after. The second time, I made sure to towel dry my hair before applying this and it worked 100% better with visible results. I kept admiring my hair- no frizz! Smooth hair! It looked healthy without sacrificing body and volume.

It’s very easy to use:  wash your hair then add a capful of the pure protein to a moisturizing conditioner, I used about a tablespoon of Pureology’s Perfect for Platinum Reconstruct Repair. Mix well in a glass bowl. Apply to hair. I covered my hair with a plastic shower cap and waited for twenty minutes. Then rinse out and style as usual. Its recommended to use a high heat to lock in the protein, which I did.

You can use this twice a month which I plan to do. At $21 per bottle, its less than a salon treatment and takes less time. Im always in a time crunch so the more I can do at home, the better.

If your hair is damaged, frizzy, delicate, damaged, color treated, in need of some smoothing, I highly recommend the Pure Protein treatment! For more, please go here.

Oprah’s Mane Man Andre Walker Launches His Own Hair Care Line!

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 5th August 2011

You might know the name Andre Walker from the Oprah Winfrey show, he won seven Emmy awards for styling Ms. Winfrey. Impressive isn’t it? In November of 2010, Andre launched his own hair care line. I got the chance to try out some products from this line and am excited to share. Read on…

Because my hair is chemically treated, dry, fine, prone to breaking, naturally frizzy and generally disgusting (not really but I am frustrated by the texture!), its been recommended that I do a deep conditioning treatment every week.  But where to find a really great treatment that I can afford? Hmmm…enter Andre Walker’s Total Keratin Obsession Deep Conditioning Treatment and Hair Mask. This is exactly what the doctor ordered for my distressed tresses.

It contains nourishing oils including olive, aloe, argan plus Keratin which strengthens hair. You leave on for about five to ten minutes, although I like to leave in on for about thirty, then rinse. My hair was super silky and soft after using this. I might even go so far next time as to wrap my hair in a shower cap and top off with a damp warm towel so this can really penetrate!

The timing on these products couldn’t have been better since I was just at the salon and discussed products with my stylist. She encouraged me to use only nourishing products, nothing drying. I vowed to only use oils and natural products on my hair from here out and see if there might be an improvement with my hair. Why oh why does my hair tend to frizz?

The only thing I can do is treat it kindly and use products like the Q Oil, Quench Essential Oil. I applied to wet hair on ends, then again once hair was dry, lightly applying all over my hair to smooth it down. Good news- it can also be used on skin. Any extra gets rubbed into my hands. It smells good and you only use a tiny bit. Nourishes and hydrates, who doesn’t need that?

Find out more by going to Andre Walker Hair.

MAC’s new collection for summer… Surf, Baby!

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 26th May 2011

Surfs up! Nothing says summer like beachy waves in the hair, salty air, bronzed skin and balmy days and nights. I am most excited about MAC’s new Surf, Baby collection. I’ve been anxiously awaiting this one. Turquoise and tans with nudes and corals…I want to get my hands on Good Lovin gloss and Hibiscus lipstick.

With the exception of the guys red Speedo, I like this picture and get that summer surfer vibe from it. I want her hair and her attitude.

Summer is the perfect time to lighten up the makeup and go for a light bronzer on the face with bright glossy lips. In my ideal world, my hair would possess nice waves, my skin would  be healthy and bronzed with MAC’s Skinsheen Bronzer stick  and my eyes would only require a hint of mascara while my lips were glossy and bright pink. I love these Suntints spf 20. I like all three shades, I can’t pick just one!

Advice for summer hair from LA & NYC’s Hottest Salons

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 10th May 2011

For summer hairstyles, I turned to a few big names in the biz. When the heat of the summer rolls around, I struggle to find a decent ‘do. My own hair is impossible when summer begins. I start fighting with my hair around June and continue to fight the frizz thru October. I live in a ponytail and ball cap!

I asked these stylists to include ideas for short, medium and long hair. No matter what your style, healthy hair looks the best so remember to use good products, condition and keep the heat styling to a minimum.

Keep reading for summer hair tips and ideas!

Angelo David of The Angelo David Salon/NY: For short hair, you can be playful with a textured bob. It guarantees to get you looks as you walk around the beach. Medium hair give girls enough to play around with, so your best bet is to opt for long layers and having the almost undone, messy , California –esque finish. The cut and styling should leave enough length to bring the hair to a ponytail as an option.cam-234x300

Those with long hair might just settle for a quick ponytail during the hot summer days, but getting structured layers, together with bangs, creates a great summer bohemian vibe. In order to frame the face beautifully, strategic detailing of layers and bangs should be done according to the face shape. Add a great brim hat and you are ready to have the best summer hair ever.

Before enjoying the weather, make sure you arm yourself with the essentials to help your hair. The Angelo David, Long and Strong Detangler and Zero Frizz Control helps lock in moisture and make styling a breeze. A great wide tooth comb detangles your hair without causing breakage. Lastly, investing on intense hydrating shampoo and conditioner (such as the Pureology Hydrate Antifade Complex line) are your best bet to let your hair looking its best while battling the sun’s harsh elements.

reese-witherspoon-9-225x300Natasha Sunshine of The Byu-Ti Salon/LA: Short hair is all the rave in Hollywood this summer season. To keep it current, choose styles with soft wispy layers with a retro inspiration like Michelle Williams, Audrey Hepburn pixie. Want it a just a tad longer? Go for Victoria Beckham’s signature 60′s inspired graduated crop. Try Pureology’s Cuticle Polisher to get added shine and control.

Not quite ready for the super short celeb styles? Go for a medium length choppy bob worn best by the uber feminine Scarlett Johansson. What makes this style stand out is the soft rounded layers that give the perfect balance of whimsy and modern. Use Bio-Ionics 1″ Style Winder curling iron to add some extra polish to your waves.Michelle-Williams-pixie-hair-cut-300x300

Love it long? Keep it fit for a queen, well a future queen that is, by choosing a classic long layered cut like Kate Middleton’s. The key to this cut is shorter face framing layers around the front that gradually fade into long sweeping layers in the back giving the hair just the right amount of swing and pomp. Try an extra large Ibiza boar bristle brush for this blow dry to get added smoothing and control.

scarlett-johansson-0-225x300Summer hairstyles for short, medium and long hair by Alma G of the Alma Salon/NY: For short hair, French bob is a chic look, and for edginess add thick blond French. To achieve this cut, razor thinning shears will be needed. For texture use welding paste.

For medium length, shoulder length, use thinning shears and for body and control Guts and align 12 from Redken will do the job.

Most women will have long hair this summer. For silky straight hair, Sedu, flat iron will do the magic. For curls or loose waves, a porcelain ceramic curly iron is the best choice.

For every type and length of hair, It’s a 10, miracle masque, is a must for healthy, shiny, frizz-free hair.

Rene Furterer hair- Get the look

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 8th April 2011

rene

Right now, I’m all about trying to get my hair in healthy condition. gone are the days when I use a billion styling products and try to get my hair super big and full. No, I want it healthy and frizz free now. I’ve long been a fan of Rene Furterer products and have been using the Rene Furterer OKARA shampoo and conditioner which is very gentle and helps preserve color.  My hair looks better after using this, soft and hydrated.

I’d love to have hair like this girl in the photo. Will that day ever come? Probably not without the help of a wig. However, we can all use these tips for smooth hair! Read on….

CREATE: To nourish and restructure hair with shea butter and vitamins A, D and E, shampoo with René Furterer KARITÉ intense nourishing shampoo, and then follow with a five-minute treatment with René Furterer KARITÉ intense nourishing conditioning cream.

Apply two to three drops of René Furterer MYRRHEA silkening leave-in fluid to wet hair on mid-length and ends before blow-out; add another couple of drops for very thick hair. Work a little René Furterer KARITÉ no rinse concentrate at ends. This area tends to be driest—the concentrate helps repair and protect ends while encouraging movement.

Spray René Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray at roots of hair during blow-out, using round brush; spray is concentrated mostly on top for lift so hair doesn’t get flat.  Wind sections around a one and a half-inch curling iron; each rolled section is clipped. This creates foundation for style to help waves last.  FINISH: Once clips are removed, brush through hair and spray hair lightly with René Furterer GLOSSING SPRAY for shine.

Dollface: Cameron Diaz

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 6th April 2011

I’ve long been a Cameron Diaz fan, from the earliest movies like the Mask. I love her effortless California girl style! I’m green with envy over her athletic body but that’s a whole other post. She makes a white shirt and jeans look somehow sexy and chic!

I saw this recent pic and am inspired by her makeup and her very easy hair do. I rifled through my Too Faced faves and came up with what Miss Diaz may have used if she chose exclusively from one of my favorite brands,  TooFaced Cosmetics.

I’m only guessing here so don’t quote me but for Cam’s look, try a neutral eye shadow, like the Natural Eye Palette. Eyes are closely rimmed with a great black, such as Lava Gloss. Her mascara must be something deep and black, like Lash Injection!

Lightly peachy cheeks, such as Papa Don’t Peach powder blush,  with a swipe of gloss like Plush, a candy coral shade that offers lovely shine.

Of course she must use the Primed and Poreless Bronzed Tint with a hint of the Primed and Poreless Powder to lock down any shine!

For the hair, lets go with styling using a round brush,  probably from Goody which makes my favorite round brush, then a quick curl with an iron to keep the ends from frizzing too much. A little Agape & Zoe serum through the ends and that’s it! Done!
