3 Eyeliner Looks To Copy From Last Night’s Red Carpets! Which Would You Wear?

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 2nd November 2011

Apparently, Tuesday is the new Saturday when it comes to eyeliner. Here are three ideas from last night’s red carpets that we can all copy:

Idea 1: Line your inner rims with blue, then surround with black eyeliner like Carmen Electra:

Idea 2: Go for a touch of cat-eye with a gel liner like Candace Swanepoel:

And idea 3: Line just your bottom lids with bronze liner like Blake Lively:
Three pretty easy ideas. Which would you most like to wear?

Hottest Beauty Look Now: Graphic Black Eye Shadow And Cat Eyeliner

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 20th October 2011

Black never goes out of style in fashion—or beauty.  This season, the sexy shade was used in a variety of ways that ranged from soft and sexy to smudgy and cool. Here are the hottest ways to wear it this fall.

For the eye makeup at Moschino, makeup artist Tom Pecheux mimicked the shape of the sunglasses in the collection, creating an exaggerated cat-eye.  To create the perfect shape, Pecheux drew the outline with black pencil and filled it in with matte black shadow, up to and over the crease.  Next, he added a shimmery black shade just on the lids that caught the light, evoking the effect of lenses in the sun.  “This is a more friendly, less aggressive way to wear black shadow, because it’s not so heavy or overdone,” he said.

Another way to create the cat-eye look on yourself is by using a cat eyeliner stencil. You can achieve the exact same eye makeup look simply by placing the cat eye stencil over your eyelid and filling in will color shadow. It’s that easy.

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 17th January 2011

The Golden Globes may be over, but there are still a few awards to be handed out–the beauty awards!  This year was all about serious eyeliner, peach hues on the cheeks and lips, and carpet stopping updo’s.  Check out our favorite looks for the best hair and makeup in each category.

michelle_williams_golden_globes_look.jpg
Best Hair and Makeup on an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama: Michelle Williams
The only thing standing out more than her blonde pixie do was her radiant skin. Add to the mix her thick, Twiggy-like lashes, absolutely perfect eyeliner, and coral lips which won her a huge BSW “Love it!”.
emma_stone_golden_globes.jpg

Best Hair and Makeup on an Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy, or Musical went to Emma Stone. Spray tans were red carpet popular last night but not all made the cut. In Emma Stone’s case her bronze, peachy look was just right, and who could resist her uber-sexy cat eyes. Her blonde locks though have been getting mixed reviews, but we love the look and think it should stick around.
mila_kunis_golden_globes.jpg
Best Hair and Makeup on an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture went to Mila Kunis, whose deeply lined eyes, coral lips and cheeks, and retro updo took top honors, even if she didn’t walk away with a Globe.
piper_perabo_golden_globes.jpg
Best Hair and Makeup on an Actress in a Television Series, Drama, was a hands down Piper Perabo. We almost didn’t recognize her. Her slick ponytail, (loved!) and gorgeous red lips definitely got our attention which looked effortless and chic.
claire_danes_golden_globes.jpg
Best Hair and Makeup on an Actress in a Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television went to Claire Danes whose embrace with the real Temple Grandin proved her to be a class act. Her soft bronzed smoky eyes, gold-flecked pink cheeks, and smooth updo were pretty fantastic too.
kelly_macdonald_golden_globes.jpg
Best Hair and Makeup on an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television went to Kelly Macdonald. Don’t you just love this look? With her perfect red lips and softly sculpted waves, for a second we really did feel like it was the 20s’ and she was an old-Hollywood screen siren.

Have a look you loved at last nights Golden Globe Awards? Please dish…

Shaky hands When Lining Your Eyes? Try This Eyeliner Trick Instead

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 13th January 2011

For anyone who feels a little clumsy about the whole eyeliner thing, and just can’t seem to get the hang of it, we have another suggestion for you..

Why not try using an eyeliner stencil instead. It helps you to create perfect liner in seconds and is easy to use. Just place the stencil along your upper and lower lashline like actress Brooke Newton here, and voila! Magnificent!

perfect cat eyes

Now, for some of you who don’t have a shaky hand, this tool will make you think otherwise, but if you could do a perfect cat eye, or eyeliner in under 10 seconds flat, you may re-think the idea and become hooked like so many others.

You can make your liner as thin or as thick as you like, and the same goes for doing a cat eyes.

Jessica Alba Does Thick Eyelashes & Cat Eyeliner

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 22nd December 2010

For the premiere of Little Fockers in New York City, Jessica Alba turned up the heat with over-the-top sexy eye fringe and cat eyeliner. If you want a similar impact, without the hassle of applying false lashes, instead dust them with a translucent powder before applying mascara. The powder will give your lashes extra clinging power, while the cat eyeliner with add major drama to your look.

We asked celebrity makeup artist Beth Bender of beth bender beauty for a few tips on how to make your eyes stand out.

Cat Eyeliner is perfect for day or night, red carpet or not.” says Bender, “and just as effective as a sultry smoky eye for turning heads.”

STEP ONE: Using a cat eye shadow stencil, place along eyelid and sweep color across the lid. For a thicker, and more winged out line, place the stencil slightly above the lid and upward.

Wipe the stencil clean with a tissue and repeat the same steps on the other eye.

STEP TWO: Once you have created your cat eyeliner, go over it with a gel liner to set the color and keep it from smudging.

STEP THREE: Dust the lashes with a translucent powder, and finish with two coats of black mascara on top lashes, using whatever is left on the wand to define lower lashes.

BSW Beauty Tip: The easiest way to create your Cat Eye Liner is by using an eyeliner stencil. It takes seconds to do, and there’s no guessing involved. Check out the Get in Line Eyeliner & Stencil Kit, and the Get in Line Smoky Eyeshadow Kits, both from beth bender beauty. Every kit come with one set of eyeliner stencils, 3 eye shadows, instructions, and a brush.

Holiday Makeup For Any Ocassion

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 29th November 2010

Who doesn’t love dressing up their eyes, especially for the holidays?

We asked celebrity makeup artist Beth Bender of beth bender beauty for a few tips on how to make your eyes stand out.

Winged shadow or Cat Eyeliner is perfect for day or night. Going to a Cocktail Party? Why not smoke it out a bit like Brandy and January Jones seen here. “It’s an updated, more structured take on the classic smoky eye” says Bender, “but just as effective for turning heads.”

How to Get Winged eye makeup

STEP ONE: Trace the inner rims of the upper and lower lash lines with a dark water-proof pencil. benefit’s Badgal Water-proof Liner is the most popular, and my fave.

STEP TWO: Sweep a complimentary shade over the lids, and extend it slightly beyond the outer corners of eyes.

STEP THREE: Blend the color with a clean brush to soften the lines, and finish with two coats of black mascara on top lashes. You can use whatever is left on the wand to define lower lashes.

The easiest way to create your Winged Eye shape is to use an eyeliner stencil. It takes seconds to create, and all you have to do is soften the lines for a smokier look. Check out the Get in Line Eyeliner & Stencil Kit, and the Get in Line Smoky Eyeshadow Kits, both from beth bender beauty. Every kit come with one set of eyeliner stencils, 3 eye shadows, instructions, and a brush.

Diane Kruger who usually keeps her beauty style classic, and chic, decided to take the red hot trend, and make it even hotter with a sea green shadow winged out and practically purring.

Sexy Cat Eyes And How To Get Them

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 23rd June 2010

Cat eyeliner never seems to go out of style, and for a good reason. It’s sexy, doesn’t take more than a few minutes to do, and looks good all year long.

What you may not know, is that the super popular winged eyeliner was made famous by women in Egypt and Mesopotamia to help keep annoying sand gnats from flying into their eyes. Trend setting pharaohs like Cleopatra were the first to turn up their eye liner, and thanks to cat-eye lovers like Lauren Conrad, Angelina Jolie, and Nicole Richie, the look is as popular today as it ever was.

Sexy Retro Cat Eyes

According to Los Angeles-based makeup artist Beth Bender, and creator of the Get in Line Eyeliner Kit, cat-eyes have remained in style because the technique gives round eyes an elongated look, while also  helping larger eyes to appear smaller. Bender is regularly asked to create cat-eyes for a variety of occasions, including celebrity & red carpet events, editorial, film, and private clients.

“Younger women just beginning to wear eyeliner especially love this look,” she says. “It works for day or night, and is easy to do in just a few steps.”

The quickest way to get the look yourself is by using an eyeliner stencil. Less steps, less mess, and instant cat eyes.

Start: by placing the stencil marked ‘Cat Eye’ over your closed eye, and then opening with your lashes poking through the eye shape cut out of stencil.

Next: Using the fuller end of brush (slightly dampened) press into your color, and sweep along the cat eye shape. Make sure to press up into the point of stencil to ensure the perfect winged effect. If you desire a thicker line, Bender suggests placing the stencil slightly higher before applying your shadow.

To finish the look: Starting at the base of your lashes, apply a black-black mascara and move the color all the way up to the tips. You can apply 2 coats if you desire.

Beth’s favorite beauty tips: Using an eyeliner sealant mixed with your eyeshadow will give your cat eyes even more staying power.

For a more dramatic look: create the cat eye shape using your stencil and powder shadow, and go over them with a Gel Eyeliner (as seen here on Nicole Richie).

Top Beauty Trends At The Oscars

Posted by Beth on 24th February 2009

All the girls were there on Oscar night. Some looked amazing as they made their way down the red carpet, and others not so much. All in all still exciting to be a part of and to watch the evening unfold as it did.

Hair pulled away from the face or in a soft bun that lay at the nape of the neck seemed to be a popular look for many of the women. Ladies like Jennifer Aniston and Alicia Keys decided to let their locks down, while celebrities like Kate Winslet and Diane Lane went for a more sophisticated look.

Natalie Portman’s look was created by celebrity makeup artist Jeanine Lobell who made her gorgeous golden brown eyes even more noticeable by applying purple shadow above and below the lashline. She applied a thin line that rimmed the entire eye and a few coats of Chanel Inimitable mascara. Her inspiration was the dress that Natalie had chosen to wear. “The color was such a gorgeous orchid, and being Rodarte, I wanted to do cool punk-rock, sexy make up” says Lobell. I would say she definitely saw her inspiration come to life in this extremely beautiful and star-stopping look.

Beyonce can rock the house, and rock some very sexy cat eyes. We are just loving her eyes and her absolutely flawless face that she sported on the red carpet. A look that proves how striking cat eyes when done right can create quite the stir. Beyonce was one of the first to score a Get in Line Eyeliner and Stencil Kit and now she’s become a pro.
Sarah Jessica Parker’s look was in sync with her alter-ego Carrie Bradshaw of ‘Sex and The City’.
With luminous skin as the backdrop, her eyes took center-stage with fully-rimmed eyeliner and a rich gray eyeshadow that made her gorgeous green eyes pop even more.
Check out more celebrity beauty trends at this years Oscars tomorrow, and our first celebrity teen who will be showing us how she gets red carpet ready.

How To Get Celebrity-Perfect Eyes

Posted by Beth on 24th January 2009

One award ceremony ends and another begins. Tomorrow night are the SAG Awards, also another fun event to cover. As we get ready to bring you some more beauty and fashion from the red carpet we thought we would feature a few more beauty’s from this years Golden Globes.

We just adore Penelope Cruz. She has great style and you can always count on her to give us gorgeous eyes, usually lined with perfection. She can wear pretty much anything including a smoky or cat eye , she loves them both. At this years Golden Globes she didn’t disappoint. Her make up looked fresh and her skin was radiant. The focus was on her eyes which were tightly lined using a black eyeliner mixed with a little eyeliner sealant to keep it from budging. Some Chocolate Brown shadow was blended into the crease, and her browbone was highlighted with a cream colored shadow to give her eyes even more pop.

To get Penelope’s sexy eyes with ease an eyeliner stencil works best, and gives you perfect eyeliner without the mess. You can make the line as thin or as thick as you like just by moving the stencil up or down from the eyelid. Repeat the same underneath the lower lashline if you desire liner around the entire eye as seen here on Penelope. Using a blender brush apply some chocolate brown shadow in the crease of eye and blend. Take your cream colored shadow and start at the browbone blending color into crease for a seamless look.

Perfect eyes deserve perfect brows so make sure yours are groomed and red carpet ready. If you need some help with your brows check out Anastasia’s Eyebrow stencils for creating perfect brows. She is the Hollywood Brow expert and her list of celebs is endless. Her stencils are the best and so easy to use. Finish with two coats of rich black mascara focusing on the outer lashes and make sure to hit the bottom lashes too. Try Lashblast Mascara in Black from CoverGirl available at most drugstores, Target, CVS and Walmart.
