Iman’s sculpted smoky eye shadow seen here for the 2010 CFDA Awards looked beautiful, but to get them her makeup artist Sam Fine didn’t reach for shades of gray.

Instead, he used brown hues for a flattering, chic look. To get Iman’s sultry eyes, try a brown eyeshadow with gold metallic, and apply from the crease of eye to the lashline. Make sure to blend well, and gently extend the color outwards towards the temples.

Add a touch of kohl liner along the lashline, and if you’re feeling up to it, some false lashes, followed by a few coats of black mascara.

When you think of classic smoky eyes for the evening, naturally you think black, sultry, and smoky, but as the weather begins to get warmer, the dark makeup you wear can seem a little heavy. In Gwyneth Paltrow’s case she was ahead of the smoky eye curve with the perfect alternative at this years CFDA awards.

Instead of black, she went for a soft, taupe smoky eye. The style was still elegant enough for evening, and for her super sparkly gown, but it was also perfect for summer. To get the look at home without a makeup artist, take a few tips from makeup artist beth bender who talked to BSW about the best ways to summer-proof your makeup.

Use an eyeliner in the same hue as your shadow. Rim your upper lashline with the pencil and after applying your shadow, use a smudge brush to blend the two together.

Lauren Conrad has come such a long way from her start in reality TV. A hot new selling book, a clothing line, and the face of mark cosmetics keep her very busy, but not when it comes to sharing her favorite beauty must-haves. She reveals the secret behind her perfect golden glow in the latest issue of Instyle. “I have tried at least 20 self-tanners! Dior makes a great one that isn’t too orange,” she tells the magazine. “I always test a small area that I can cover up if need be. It is all trial and error.”

The former Hills star doesn’t bat a beauty lash when it comes to her face, and has indulged in oxygen facials and laser hair removal, saying she’s done everything, including her at-home tanning session, and manicures which she also does herself.

Malin Akerman showed us that cat eyes don’t always have to be so severe, and at the Haute and Bothered season 2 launch party in Beverly Hills, we got to see first hand just how sexy, and alluring they can look when you choose the right colors.

To try this subdued version, celebrity makeup artist and Creative Director of beth bender beauty, beth bender says “get the look by sweeping a medium gray eyeshadow outwards from the corner of your eye towards the tail of your browbone.”

Kate Hudson’s eyes were nothing short of majestic at a recent New York City gala celebrating Chopard. Her look was dewy and fresh with the emphasis on her eyes. But of course not much was needed for this beauty, whose makeup artist chose soft sheer colors for the face, and eggplants, and plums for the eyes.

To create Kate’s look on yourself, start with a plum or eggplant liquid liner and apply to the top lashline. Next add a touch of highlighting cream on the brow bone, and inner corners of the eyes. For the eyelids apply a shimmery eggplant shadow with a medium size eyeshadow brush, and sweep underneath the eye as well.

For a more dramatic look, use a plum liner along the bottom lashes, and smudge. A few coats of black mascara finished Ms. Hudson’s eyes, and she was almost ready for the ball.

On Kate’s cheeks a soft pink blush applied directly on the apples, and slightly above the cheeks, a highlighting cream applied with either a foundation brush or sponge for a shimmery finish.  On Kate’s lips a pale pink lip gloss applied after lining the lips and filling them in with a soft pink pencil.

Ellen Pompeo was striking in Navy Blue Smoky Eyes at an American Cancer Society luncheon in New York City. Her makeup artist Matin used her Denim Lanvin dress as his inspiration to create her look.

The trick to using navy eyeshadow either on the lid, or to contour the crease, is to blend with a contrasting color, like gray, lavender, or a pale silver shimmer. This will keep the eyes from becoming muddy, and give them a more polished look.

To do, start by adding a light gray or pale lavender shadow on the lids, and blending up into crease, and slightly above. Then with your navy shadow, sweep the color into the crease using a back and forth motion. Once you have the desired intensity, finish by lining the eyes with a black liner. Waterproof works better and will not budge. Using a blend of your navy blue and gray/lavender shadow sweep color along top liner, and underneath as well.

Mascara is a must! Make sure to apply at least two coats, and try a navy instead of the usual black. For eyes that are green, or blue it will make your eye color pop even more.
