I was recently introduced to a female artist who at 51 finally saw her dream come true.  Robin Skye’s debut album House of Love, came to life thanks to her good friend and producer, George Petit, who also co-wrote several of the songs.  George bombarded Robin with emails until she finally agreed to stop what she was doing and get her songs on tape!  The result is an album filled with soulful lyrics, tunes that stay in your head, and an all around feel good CD.

A little bit about Robin:  She was born in Chicago with parents who were avid art lovers.  Both of her parents loved to sing, so she grew up surrounded by music influenced by The Beatles, all the greats in Jazz, and the Big Band world. Her passion for music was recognized early on leading Robin to sing with her mother at parties and playing the Ukulele.   She attended Vassar College, majoring in theatre where she was the lead in many productions.  Once she graduated, she moved to New York City where she began singing in clubs like The Bitter End and Kenny’s Castaways.

Robin’s successful career took her to Broadway, LA Nightclubs, and noteworthy venues in a 51-city, 10 week tour for Columbia Artists Management. A huge achievement for Robin was singing the National Anthem at Chicago’s Wrigley Stadium to over 31, 000 fans!

Two of our favorite True Blood co-stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer finally tied the knot on Saturday at a beautiful home in Malibu. Yay!!! It was a private ceremony but of course the paparazzi was hovering near by to try and get a shot of the two during the nuptials and after.

The bride wore a Marilyn Monroe-style white halter dress, Neil Lane jewels and black platforms for the sunset nuptials and looked absolutely beautiful. Guests included True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten, Sam Trammell, Rutina Wesley and Carrie Preston. Also there was Paquin’s co-star from The Romantics, Elijah Wood.

They celebrated with a reception at a beach house, where Moyer traded his dark suit for a pair of board shorts, and led the wedding party in for a celebratory dip in the ocean. The couple has been engaged since last August, when Moyer popped the question in Hawaii at Sandy Beach with a rough-cut antique diamond ring he custom-designed with Cathy Waterman.

We wish them a beautiful life together.

The Bender Sisters were literally on the Red Carpet at the Hollywood Break Through Awards yesterday at the Pacific Design Center on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood.  It was hosted by Heather McDonald from Chelsea Lately and sponsored by Crest 3D White.

Te-see and Beth were chatting up a storm with their new favorite heart throb Joe Manganiello of  HBO’s True Blood, who was the presenter for “break through in architecture.” The girls always enjoy meeting up with another “East Coaster.”  They had more fun in the cocktail lounge where they talked to Heather McDonald, Dermot Mulroney, Dianna Agron of Glee, Sofia Vergara from ABC’s Modern Family, Jonathan Cheban from E’s Spindustry, and 13 year old Cody Simpson!

This Thursday, August 12th will mark the first GET TOGETHER ART FESTIVAL for Nevaville. A full service boutique production company based in Manhattan, and owned by two of the most passionate, driven, ambitious, and soon to be extremely successful men who are barely out of their teenage years.

Young Entrepreneur’s and film makers, Paolo Marchica, and Joswell Valdez had the idea to put together a group of young artists, including musicians, singers, rap artists, DJs’, comedians, designers, photographers, and painters all under one roof, on one night. To get people “together”, to connect, get exposed, and most importantly to put down the “crackberry” as I like to call it, for some amazing NYC culture. Guests (mostly college age and under 30) will be entertained all night long with some of the hottest up and coming talent, while enjoying cocktails and a great tri-level space from Bar 13, and delicious food from Serafina, of the Serafina Restaurant Group.

“The Get Together Art Festival” is an elaborate gathering of artists from all 5 boroughs including the newest up and coming talent New York has to offer. Performances from DJs, bands, comedians and entertainers, to galleries of photographers, painters, and young new clothing designers will be showing their work. The night will also include special celebrity guest appearances who will be there to support, and promote The Get Together Art Festival.

The Get Togther Art Festival will be held at Bar 13 (bar13.com) this Thursday, August 12th. The party starts at 8pm and goes until 4am. It has been one of the most talked about summer events in NYC, and one you definitely do not want to miss!

Locks of Love and Nexxus^® Salon Hair Care recently partnered for an online makeover contest encouraging women to tell them why they wanted to donate their hair to the charity. The winner, Brandi Landry, submitted an inspiring story that captured the hearts of the Nexxus Facebook community. As the contest winner, Brandi recently traveled from Louisiana to New York City for a hair cut and styling session with celebrity stylist and Nexxus Creative Director Kevin Mancuso.  With over 16-inches of hair donated, she certainly sent a lot of LOVE to Locks of Love.

Locks of Love Donation Guidelines:

* Hair must be secured in a ponytail or braid before it is cut; and the cut must be made above the hair elastic.

* Hair must be at least 10 inches from the elastic to the tip.

* Hair must be clean and completely dry before it is mailed.

* A ponytail should be placed in a plastic bag and then into a padded envelope.

* Include the official hair donation form – available at www.LocksofLove.org – to be acknowledged for the donation.

* All hair donations must be mailed to Locks of Love at: 234 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33405-2701

Unfortunately, the older we get the less invincible we are. As you already know, The Bender Sisters are huge fans of fashion designer Sue Wong.  Her inspirational designs can make any woman feel extremely feminine and self confident.  Sue has a way of creating dresses and gowns that fit every size and shape.  Even women with small breasts…like me:)  So, Sony Pictures approached Sue to design a collection featuring the top selling novel/soon to be released film Eat Pray Love starring Julia Roberts.

All we can say is OMG!  We had such a fabulous time hanging out in the Degree Tent with the Unilever team and the girls from Weber Shandwick:)  After our 2 hour shoot with Bravo TV for a new Reality show in which we were personally styled by celebrity stylist Patrick, we hopped into a limo from Music Express with David at the wheel, then zipped off to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine for a female music fest of a lifetime!  At the VIP gate we were greeted by Janna and Lauren from Weber Shandwick, then personally escorted to The Degree Natureffects For Women Tent alongside the other beauty reporters…

The tent was absolutely beautiful, filled with fresh flowers, comfy sofas, food, drinks and a huge flat screen featuring the music of sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson from the Dixie Chicks.  An immediate “Degree Sisterhood” was formed by all of us in this special tent.  The Sisters were treated like royalty from beginning to end…It was a magical day!!!

Our new found Sisterhood headed to a press conference around 5:00 pm, where we met the Lilith Fair line up which included:  Sarah McLachlan, Emmylou Harris, Brandi Carlile, The Weepies, Jes Hudak, Molly Jenson, Miranda Lambert and Elizaveta. I asked Sarah why there had been such a long gap between Fairs. She replied, “we all had children and needed a break.  Once our kids were older we felt ready to get back to the tour.” The panel was also asked what their idea of “beauty was.” Inner beauty seemed to be the unanimous answer of the day.  They agreed that if they felt good inside, they were good to go all around!  BRAVO!!!  The Bender Sisters thought this an excellent answer:)

What I found interesting was that these female artists were like family.  You could sense the genuine feelings for each other which was a breath of fresh air.  Their views on being a woman in today’s society were very similar as well as their admiration for their female predecessors who helped pave the way for them…

The conference ended with Sarah McLachlan presenting a check to Downtown Women’s Center in LA.  This shelter has helped thousands of women get back on their feet…and what a beautiful way to end the conference!

Lilith Fair 2010, sponsored by Degree Natureffects as well as other generous companies, is bringing women together this summer from all walks of life, lifting them up and honoring all females for their strength, power, wisdom and love!  For every woman who attends Lilith Fair 2010, including the fabulous line up of female artists (which does vary from city to city)…a big thumbs up!

The rest of our day was spent listening to the inspirational voices of Brandi Carlile, Emmylou Harris, Miranda Lambert and the amazing talent of Sarah McLachlan. The night ended with all the girls gathering on the main stage to sing “Because the Night,” by Patti Smith.

Last week a funny thing was going on at the infamous Grand Central Station in New York City…There was a big “Snow White” like mirror that when you stopped by to check yourself out, Angela Kinsey from NBC’s The Office and spokeswoman for Clairol Nice n’ Easy, would magically appear giving hair color feed back and tips.  Very Candid Camera-ish…
