Emmy Night Fashion: Cindy Bokma Of Hello Dollface

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 30th August 2010

Here is the big fashion recap from Emmy night! I asked my pal Beth Bender of BeautyStyleWatch to chime in and add her thoughts. Keep reading!

Eva Longoria Parker gives us  no big surprises here, she’s always dressed in flattering gowns that accentuate her tiny waist. Ive seen this look before on her but thats okay because its a good look. I’ll give her two thumbs up for a lovely dress and accessories.

I love Claire Danes hair and dress. Please tell me she’s wearing some kind of sparkling diamond earring…to not wear any jewelry at all would be criminal. A cocktail ring or tasteful diamonds would have been perfection. You can’t just wear a gown, does she not watch The Rachel Zoe Project? With that being said, Claire’s dress was my fave of the whole night. I’d wear it (with an accessory).

Beth says: Claire Danes looked just beautiful! Her dress was fabulous and the color looked gorgeous against her skin tone. I actually liked the fact that she had no accessories on and think it was a smart move since her gown was so stunning and has lots of bling. Her skin looked flawless, and I loved the tight chocolate brown eyeliner around her eyes which made the color pop even more.

Tina Fey and Mariska Hargitay look lovely. Im in love with the pale blush shade of Mariska’s dress and Tina often wears black but it looks good on her. Glad to see Tina’s hair pulled back and showing off cool earrings. Love both of these girls. (as a writer I’m kind of in awe of Tina)

Beth says: Mariska Hargitay looked fabulous! I loved her hair and makeup, and those eyebrows were outstanding! Her earrings were perfect for the gown she was wearing and her skin looked dewy, and I loved her soft peach cheeks and nude lip.

Tina Fey, not so good. I just love Tina but her dress did not work for me at all. Uggggh! I hated the pattern and thought it was not flattering for her shape.  A few hair extensions and some sexy waves would have been much nicer. Maybe even a few false lashes to open up her eyes. I mean come on people, this is one of the few times you get to play dress up. So have some fun!

Kim Kardashian, or as Joel McHale on The Soup calls her, Kardassian.  What can we say about Kim? She looks like she was drawn in the Disney animation studio and has come to life as a real live Princess Jasmine! I like the dress and the cuff, her is done appropriately for the gown. I’m not bowled over but she does look good.

Beth says: Kim Kardashian…hmmmm....not really sure why she got an invite, and did you notice her mom Chris trying to get a few props on the carpet. I didn’t care for her dress at all. I thought it looked like she was going to a toga party instead of a Hollywood Awards event.

I did like her makeup which was actually very soft compared to the very heavy makeup she is usually seen wearing.

Think of how great Kyra Sedgewick’s dress would look with a slim bejeweled belt, hmmm?  It just needs a POP of something at the waist, do you agree?  I get the hair, all loose and curly but maybe it would have been nice in one of those messy buns. Slim belt, messy bun. I love the color of the dress though.

Let me take a moment to say YAY! JANE LYNCH WON! She makes me laugh out loud on Glee and I can only imagine the fun the writers have coming up with her one line zingers. Im really into the dark purple shade which looks good on almost everyone. Lea Michele’s dress wasn’t my fave, with all those fussy ruffles! I do however, like her necklace and makeup.

Beth says: I loved Lea Michele’s makeup and hair but was on the fence about her gown. It was a little too grown up for my taste, and seemed to swallow her up. I think a different color and not so much fabric would have definitely made a huge difference.

The first thing I noticed was her cat eyes of course and I loved them. Her makeup was beautiful and red carpet appropriate. Her skin looked luminous and her hair looked gorgeous with soft cascading waves that framed her face.

Heidi Klum would like you to know that a mother of four in her late 30’s can still rock a micro mini dress, just don’t try this at home. A little self-indulgent, as Simon Cowell would say, to wear a short dress to the Emmys, I think. Its not the MTV Awards! If that dress came to her knees, I’d be fine with it.

Nina Dobrov is a goddess here! I love the hair, makeup, earrings, one shoulder, the gathering at the waist, the length, the color, everything.

Angela Kinsey from one of my favorite shows The Office. I like her hair and makeup, love the black simple dress. Note the sparkly earrings and single bracelet. Not too much, just enough.

Everyone’s favorite 88 year old, Betty White. She looks like a delicious scoop of Baskin Robbins sherbet in this pastel two piece.

Jayma Mays in that popular navy shade. I like it. I think she is just adorable! The dress fits like a glove, her hair is amazing and the gold accessories highlight the gold in her hair. Well done Jayma!

Head to toe gorgeous! Sofia Vergara (am I the only one who remembers her and Tom Cruise dating for a quick minute several years ago?) looks perfect. Hair, awesome! Makeup, stunning! Accessories, perfect!

As you already know, The Bender Sisters are huge fans of fashion designer Sue Wong.  Her inspirational designs can make any woman feel extremely feminine and self confident.  Sue has a way of creating dresses and gowns that fit every size and shape.  Even women with small breasts…like me:)  So, Sony Pictures approached Sue to design a collection featuring the top selling novel/soon to be released film Eat Pray Love starring Julia Roberts.

Eat Pray Love Designs by Sue Wong

Eat Pray Love Designs by Sue Wong

“When I read Eat Pray Love, I immediately identified with the story, as many aspects of Elizabeth Gilbert’s journey were synchronous with my own personal odyssey,” said designer Sue Wong. “Because of the immediate connection I felt to the story, as well as its emphasis on the culture, philosophy, and, in particular, alluring mystique of the East, I was able to create a collection that was striking, exotic, and timeless, and organic to the journey in the book and forthcoming film.”

This luxurious ready-to-wear collection “Eat Pray Love” by Sue Wong, will launch August 2010 nationwide in all fine department stores like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Lord n’ Taylor, and Dillards.

So, get ready ladies to cover yourselves in luxury designed by our favorite designer, Sue Wong!

Fashion Trend: Animal Prints Hot For Spring

Posted by Beth on 2nd June 2010

For anyone who loves clothing and accessories that feature animal prints, then you’re in luck. Back again are chic safari styles in tops, sundresses, tight little mini’s, and fabulous accessories. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Charlize Theron, and Ashley Olsen have all been spotted in these trendy designs.

And though animal prints never really go out of style, they do get an update every season. Spring 2010 is no exception with feline’s like leopard & zebra still trendy, but taken to a whole new level of tribal chic. A trend that can be seen in every aspect of your wardrobe, such as the office, weekends, a day at the beach, or even just a fun night out with the girls.

LeopardPic

Fans of animal prints can also enjoy zebra, giraffe, cheetah, and leopard, in as many combinations as you like. Moschino is on the animal print trend with a darling Love Moschino leopard pencil dress that I fear may be sold out for good:-( The price is amazing too, around $325 which is a steal.

BSW Trend Tip: To keep the look fierce, make sure to pair your prints with minimal black, bronze, or pewter accessories.

Get Summer Ready By Organizing Your Closet

Posted by Te-see on 17th May 2010

To all my peeps out there who need a little organizational guidance…let me be of service to you.  For every season there is a reason to organize.  Whether it’s gathering expenses for your annual taxes or switching winter clothes for summer clothes…you need to be on top of it or you will find yourself amongst major chaos and confusion…

closet chaos be gone...

closet chaos be gone...

Lets start with summer…The first thing you’ll need to do is get a few plastic cartons that are designed to fit under a bed.  These can be found at Walmart, Target, K-Mart, etc. Go through your closet and dresser pulling all winter clothes.  Place them neatly on your bed…or if you prefer, throw them into a heap on the floor…(but let me warn you…this will not only add to your present confusion but it will also take you much longer to finish…LOL!) Take each winter item and lay it as flat as possible so you can fit as much as you can into each carton.  Once the carton is full, place the lid tightly on top and scoot under your bed.  Continue to fill each carton until all your winter clothes are out of site.  Oh, and here’s a helpful hint…when storing sweaters make sure you place several cedar chips in the carton to keep moths and other cloth eating insects from designing new patterns on your clothes! Not pretty…

Okay…now find your spring/summer clothes.  I’m sure if they were stored under your bed, in boxes or lord only knows where, they will need some refreshing…I prefer to wash them.  Not only will you get rid of the stale storage smell, you will also avoid wrinkles which avoids ironing…one of my least favorite things to do!  Once your clothes have been properly laundered, you’ll want to separate your clothes by categories, i.e., sun dresses, skirts, shorts, t-shirts…

Life made simpler...

Life made simpler...

Now that your clothes are organized, you will be of clear mind when picking out the proper outfit for the day…not to mention it’ll help you sleep better at night knowing how fabulous you will look all summer long!!!

Hope this helped…Any other areas you might need some assistance, please feel free to email…:)

Fashion Institute of Technology’s Graduating Show Was A Hit!

Posted by Lars on 3rd May 2010

The Fashion institute of Technology of New York City was on fire. The room was swathed from the ceiling to the floor in crimson. Perhaps for royalty. Oh, it was regal. I couldn’t believe the “who who’s” to the left and to the right of me.  (I needed proper eye glasses, I admit it. ) I was so intrigued with the whole event. The Future of Fashion happens each year as the next graduating class has a chance to compete for some well coveted attention from some of the most successful designers in attendance.

The event was all about cotton.  The fashion design applicants this year had to produce their designs using 95% cotton. The event was sponsored by Cotton Incorporated! I thought hmm…We’ll see……Well, I was tickled and pleased. Gorgeous hand knit creations, special occasion, childrenswear, even intimate apparel. One minute the cutest kids were confidently swagging down the runway and then before you knew it, some of the most intricately detailed lingerie to finish the show.

Even with my bad hair (it rained all day and night) I was embraced by quite possibly the most timeless and elegant woman in the world.  Carolina Herrera. This woman owns the well to the fountain of youth.  She is stunning!
