Emmy Night Fashion: Cindy Bokma Of Hello Dollface

Here is the big fashion recap from Emmy night! I asked my pal Beth Bender of BeautyStyleWatch to chime in and add her thoughts. Keep reading!

Eva Longoria Parker gives us  no big surprises here, she’s always dressed in flattering gowns that accentuate her tiny waist. Ive seen this look before on her but thats okay because its a good look. I’ll give her two thumbs up for a lovely dress and accessories.

I love Claire Danes hair and dress. Please tell me she’s wearing some kind of sparkling diamond earring…to not wear any jewelry at all would be criminal. A cocktail ring or tasteful diamonds would have been perfection. You can’t just wear a gown, does she not watch The Rachel Zoe Project? With that being said, Claire’s dress was my fave of the whole night. I’d wear it (with an accessory).

Beth says: Claire Danes looked just beautiful! Her dress was fabulous and the color looked gorgeous against her skin tone. I actually liked the fact that she had no accessories on and think it was a smart move since her gown was so stunning and has lots of bling. Her skin looked flawless, and I loved the tight chocolate brown eyeliner around her eyes which made the color pop even more.

Tina Fey and Mariska Hargitay look lovely. Im in love with the pale blush shade of Mariska’s dress and Tina often wears black but it looks good on her. Glad to see Tina’s hair pulled back and showing off cool earrings. Love both of these girls. (as a writer I’m kind of in awe of Tina)

Beth says: Mariska Hargitay looked fabulous! I loved her hair and makeup, and those eyebrows were outstanding! Her earrings were perfect for the gown she was wearing and her skin looked dewy, and I loved her soft peach cheeks and nude lip.

Tina Fey, not so good. I just love Tina but her dress did not work for me at all. Uggggh! I hated the pattern and thought it was not flattering for her shape.  A few hair extensions and some sexy waves would have been much nicer. Maybe even a few false lashes to open up her eyes. I mean come on people, this is one of the few times you get to play dress up. So have some fun!

Kim Kardashian, or as Joel McHale on The Soup calls her, Kardassian.  What can we say about Kim? She looks like she was drawn in the Disney animation studio and has come to life as a real live Princess Jasmine! I like the dress and the cuff, her is done appropriately for the gown. I’m not bowled over but she does look good.

Beth says: Kim Kardashian…hmmmm....not really sure why she got an invite, and did you notice her mom Chris trying to get a few props on the carpet. I didn’t care for her dress at all. I thought it looked like she was going to a toga party instead of a Hollywood Awards event.

I did like her makeup which was actually very soft compared to the very heavy makeup she is usually seen wearing.

Think of how great Kyra Sedgewick’s dress would look with a slim bejeweled belt, hmmm?  It just needs a POP of something at the waist, do you agree?  I get the hair, all loose and curly but maybe it would have been nice in one of those messy buns. Slim belt, messy bun. I love the color of the dress though.

Let me take a moment to say YAY! JANE LYNCH WON! She makes me laugh out loud on Glee and I can only imagine the fun the writers have coming up with her one line zingers. Im really into the dark purple shade which looks good on almost everyone. Lea Michele’s dress wasn’t my fave, with all those fussy ruffles! I do however, like her necklace and makeup.

Beth says: I loved Lea Michele’s makeup and hair but was on the fence about her gown. It was a little too grown up for my taste, and seemed to swallow her up. I think a different color and not so much fabric would have definitely made a huge difference.

The first thing I noticed was her cat eyes of course and I loved them. Her makeup was beautiful and red carpet appropriate. Her skin looked luminous and her hair looked gorgeous with soft cascading waves that framed her face.

Heidi Klum would like you to know that a mother of four in her late 30’s can still rock a micro mini dress, just don’t try this at home. A little self-indulgent, as Simon Cowell would say, to wear a short dress to the Emmys, I think. Its not the MTV Awards! If that dress came to her knees, I’d be fine with it.

Nina Dobrov is a goddess here! I love the hair, makeup, earrings, one shoulder, the gathering at the waist, the length, the color, everything.

Angela Kinsey from one of my favorite shows The Office. I like her hair and makeup, love the black simple dress. Note the sparkly earrings and single bracelet. Not too much, just enough.

Everyone’s favorite 88 year old, Betty White. She looks like a delicious scoop of Baskin Robbins sherbet in this pastel two piece.

Jayma Mays in that popular navy shade. I like it. I think she is just adorable! The dress fits like a glove, her hair is amazing and the gold accessories highlight the gold in her hair. Well done Jayma!

Head to toe gorgeous! Sofia Vergara (am I the only one who remembers her and Tom Cruise dating for a quick minute several years ago?) looks perfect. Hair, awesome! Makeup, stunning! Accessories, perfect!

HOW TO GET LEA MICHELE’S HAIR LOOK, nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her breakout role in “Glee.”

Lea Michele at Emmy's 2010

Lea Michele at Emmy's 2010

Celebrity editorial stylist Mark Townsend created a modern and fresh hair look for Lea Michele. “Lea wanted her hair to look touchable and super modern, and full hair with lots of volume and a bit of roughness was perfect against her flawless gown” said stylist Mark Townsend.

Here’s how to get Lea Michele’s look:

  • “Lea’s look started with clean hair.  She used Dove Daily Treatment Conditioner to give softness and smoothness in the time it takes to use a conditioner.

·         “The end-of-Summer timing of the Emmys is a perfect opportunity to play with color. Lea is still shooting episodes of “Glee” and we couldn’t do anything permanent, so I added in a few custom pieces of hair to add dimension and giver her removable highlights for the evening. The result was a golden/coppery effect throughout the ends of her hair.

·         “I wanted Lea’s hair to move in all different directions, so I added in Dove Body & Lift Volumizing Mousse throughout damp her and blow dried with a round brush to add lift.

  • “Next  spray 3 inch sections of hair with Dove Heat Defense Therapy Mist to protect hair against heat styling damage before using an iron
  • “Then use a 2 inch curling iron to give a subtle bend or ‘S’ curl, rather than a perfect curl. Curl from the ends all the way up, and set each section with a barrel clip for 5 to 7 minutes or until cool.
  • “Scrunch hair with Dove Daily Moisture Therapy Replenishing Mist to add moisture and blow dry briefly without a diffuser to look a bit undone.

·         “Warm a pea-sized amount of Dove Frizz Control Therapy Taming Cream between the palms of hands.  Rake fingers through hair to distribute product evenly for shiny, modern texture.

·         “To evoke Brigitte Bardot inspiration, tease hair at the crown for extra volume and lift.

·         “To finish Lea’s look I sprayed Dove Unscented Extra Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement (Aerosol) liberally on a small, natural bristle eyebrow brush (the kind that looks like a wooden toothbrush) and ran it through her bangs to hold a middle part. The parted bangs gave a modern update to the 60’s vibe of her hair.

·         “I gave Lea a 2 oz. Dove Extra Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement and the natural eyebrow brush to take with her in case she needed a touchup.”

HOW TO GET JANUARY JONES’S HAIR LOOK, nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her iconic role in “Mad Men.”

Celebrity editorial stylist Mark Townsend created an edgy, fashion-forward look for January Jones. “A textured, asymmetrical bob was the perfect way to incorporate January’s love of editorial fashion and runway style into a feminine, yet tough look,” said stylist Mark Townsend.

Here’s how to get January Jones’s look:

·         “The night before, use Dove Intensive Repair Damage Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner to strengthen hair and prevent damage.

·         “Second day texture was key to achieve this runway-meets-Hollywood look, so I pre-styled her hair the night before. Distribute Dove Curl & Sculpt Defining Mousse throughout and blow dry hair with round brush to add lift

·         “Set top sections of hair with large, 3 inch Velcro rollers for 15-20 minutes. While rollers set, add extensions in the front only to make hair longer in the front and shorter in the back.

·         “Spritz throughout with Dove Heat Defense Therapy Mist to protect against styling damage.

·         “Wrap 1 ½ to 2 inch sections of hair around a 1 inch curling iron to create a big, loose wave instead of a tight curl.

·         “The next day, reapply mousse to add lift to hair, and blow dry gently with a round brush to freshen up ends but not set perfectly.

·         “Rake a small amount of Dove Frizz Control Therapy Taming Cream through hair to add smoothness.

·         “Finish the look by spraying Dove Flexible Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement (Aerosol) to set the style but still allow movement.”

Tips from Celebrity Editorial Stylist Mark Townsend for Dove Hair Care:

“I was there for Lea’s dress fitting. Everyone in the room knew the Oscar de la Renta gown was “the one” as soon as she put it on, so my brain started working immediately. I wanted to find a way to blend Hollywood and fashion together. Her hair has a modern feel but is inspired by Brigitte Bardot.”

“I texted Lea when she was in the car on her way to the carpet and told her to not brush her hair with a regular hairbrush!  I wanted it to have some texture and separation, so I gave her a mini-bottle of Dove Hairspray and natural bristle eyebrow brush in case.”

“This has been my favorite Emmys of my entire career. Everything was so relaxed and went so smoothly – it’s been the most fun and the most me. “

“January has to maintain very specific hair style for her show, so she doesn’t have the freedom to cut her hair. A modern, asymmetrical bob was the perfect way to have fun with her look.”

Get Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Red Carpet Look From CoverGirl

Posted by The Girls at BSW on 18th August 2010

Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal attended the New York premiere of “Nanny McPhee Returns”. Makeup artist Molly R. Stern of CoverGirl created her red carpet look and shares her step-by-step tips on how get it, and her inspiration behind the look.

image001

Loews Lincoln Square 13 on August 17, 2010 in New York Cit

Inspired by the beauties of the 1920’s and 30’s, we combined the smoky eye with an added electric element and a deeply stained lip.

I started by prepping the skin with lavender mist by Jurlique and moisturized with SK11 Facial Lift Emulsion.  Next, I primed her skin with COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Serum-Primer and sparingly used Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation. I blushed the cheek with Chantecaille Aqua Blush in “Daring” with a powder blush overtop.

I smoked the eye out with Shu Uemura IR Purple 795 Pressed Eyeshadow. Then, I lined the top lash line with Sheseido Automatic Fine Eyeliner in brown and smudged out the bottom lash line with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast Eye liner in “Violet Voltage”. Then, two coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Fusion Mascara in Brown with a little black mascara on the ends. Her deep lipstain is the new shade of COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstain in Saucy Plum. To set the look, I used La Mer Treatment Powder Foundation just in the t-zone.

And there you have it! Another Fabulous red carpet look for you to enjoy.

Get Ashely Greene's look using mark makeup!

Inspiration

“We wanted to create a soft, natural look to complement Ashley’s beautiful white dress.  The overall look was natural and golden, perfect for an outdoor event.”

Face

”For the day, I like to use less coverage to create natural looking skin.  With Ashley, I applied mark Get a Tint Tinted Moisturizer Lotion in Buff/Natural all over her skin and then mark Good Riddance Hook Up Concealer in Light/Medium to cover up any redness.  To prevent excess shine, I dusted mark Matte-Nificent Oil Absorbing Powder in Buff/Natural over her forehead, cheeks and nose.”

Cheeks

“To create a nice glow, I applied mark Good Glowing Custom Pick Mosaic Blush in Hush Baby to the apples of her cheeks and down the center of her nose.  This gave give her a natural healthy flush.”

Eyes

“For Ashley’s eyes, I started by priming her eyelids with the mark Please Hold Eye Primer in Light to Medium to help her eye makeup last in the heat! Then, I applied mark Mini Mark It Stick for Eyes in Shell on her eyelids and then lightly lined her eyes with mark Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner and Shadow in Entourage (Black Shade). The neutral base really helped her eyeliner to pop!  I finished with a few generous coats of mark Make It Big Lash Plumping Mascara in Raven.

Lips

“I finished off Ashley’s look by applying mark Lots of Lacquer Super Color Lip Gloss in Pop for a rosy natural lip.”

Celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg explains below how she created Julia’s Red Carpet Beauty Look!

Face

“I started by using mark Mist Opportunity Multi-tasking Refresher to prep the face and applied mark For Goodness Face Antioxidant Skin Moisturizing Lotion all over Julia’s skin. Next, I added a touch of mark Get Bright Hook Up Highlighter in Golden under the eye area and mark Get A Tint Tinted Moisturizer Lotion SPF 15 Honey/Golden to even out her complexion. To give her a naturally radiant look, I dusted mark Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder everywhere except for her cheeks. To really emphasize her cheeks, I used a combination of mark Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint in Cheeky and Peachy and then lightly swept mark Glowdacious Illuminating Powder in Amped Up to the apples of her cheeks.

Eyes

“I began by prepping her eyelids with the mark Please Hold Eye Primer in Medium/Dark to create a strong base for her eye makeup. I then applied a combination of three mark I-mark Custom Pick Eyeshadows to her eyes. I swept Magic across her lids, blended Latte into the crease and added Whisper under the brow bone. To add definition to her eyes, I applied the black shade of mark Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner and Eyeshadow in Entourage to her top lash line and used the gold shade of mark Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner and Eyeshadow in Iconic along the lower lash line. I finished her eyes with one coat of mark Scanda-Lash Hook Up Mascara in Blacklash for thickness and a second coat of mark Lash Splash Hook Up Waterproof Mascara in Black to lengthen and hold her lashes for the night.”

Lips

“I prepped Julia’s lips with mark Kiss Dry Goodbye Lip Smoother. To get her bold lip, I applied mark Kissink Lip Tintmarker in Red Siren topped with mark Gloss Gorgeous Stay On Lip Stain in Lolli.”

The Get in Line Kit Rocks The MTV Movie Awards

Posted by The Girls at BSW on 10th June 2010

We are on a celebrity craze at BSW, and haven’t slowed down since last weeks Premiere of Get Him To The Greek, Celebrities On the Loose in NYC, and now Sunday nights MTV Movie Awards that were held at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles. The Get in Line Eyeliner Kit celebrating its 8th year also made a red carpet appearance too, and we’ve got the scoop, from which kits were featured, and who was wearing what!

Katy Perry performed in the sexiest cat eyes ever, and celebrities like Scarlett Johansson, Paris Hilton, Kristen Stewart, and Vanessa Hudgens all graced the carpet in beth bender beauty style. It was the first public appearance and red carpet event for Sandra Bullock since her break up with husband Jesse James in March. She looked absolutely beautiful, and even made a few jokes about her life in the last few months, but one thing was for sure, being a mom definitely agreed with her.

KatyPerry

Check out those amazing Cat Eyes on Katy. Created using the Get in line Eyeliner Kit in BFF, and set with the Stay Put Gel Eyeliner in Onyx. With Cat Eyes that looked so sexy, and perfect, it was hard to notice anything else, including her bright blue hair.

GetinLinePict

Paris Hilton who attended with sister Nicky was spotted taking a beauty break, and checking her smoky eyes which were beautiful we might add, and done using the Gold Digger Eyeshadow Kit, but believe us, this is one gal who doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty, and has built an empire because of it. A very smart gal indeed! On her lips, Paris is Burning Perfect Pout & Shine Lip Gloss.

ParisHilton

The beautiful Scarlett Johansson knows how to dress for a Hollywood red carpet. Her sultry, smoky eyes, soft golden waves, and strapless, laced green dress were both a big hit with the girls at BSW, and for the evening. A loyal fan of the Get in Line Eyeliner Kit, and beth bender beauty since the very beginning, she chose her New Pretty in Pink Smoky Eye Palette to create her eyes, and finished with a Long Wear lip gloss in Almost famous.

ScarlettJohan

Camera shy Kristen Stewart looked age appropriate in her gold and black dress. With minimal makeup & hair, and simple accessories, she opted for a softer version of a smoky eye using the Just Kidding Smoky Eyeshadow Kit. The result…gorgeous eyes which totally made the color even more striking.

Stars Came Out To Good House Keeping’s “Shine On”

Posted by The Girls at BSW on 19th April 2010

I can’t think of a better way to raise money for a National Women’s History Museum in Washington, D.C., then listening to some of the major icons in music at New York City’s Center.  On April 12, Brooke Shields & Meryl Streep hosted the 125th anniversary of Good House Keeping Magazine by saluting influential and inspirational women in America.

There was a room filled with “girl power” that night says our BSW NYC reporter.  “It was so amazing to be in the company of influential women like Meryl Streep, Marlee Matlin, Brooke Shields, Fran Drescher, Kristen Bell, Laura Benanti, and Hilary Duff.  The high point of the evening…Aretha Franklin!”  WOW.

These women were all decked out in the latest fashions with hair and make up looking clean and fresh.  Easy to achieve with a good mascara, foundation, and black eyeliner…and let’s not forget a good gloss!

This event raised millions of dollars for such a great cause…It’s important for young girls of today to know that women are powerful and capable of anything!  BSW can’t wait for the National Women’s History Museum to be built!  It’s amazing how little is out there about women’s history…It’s about time, don’t ya think…

Get Jennifer Lopez’s Radiant Red Carpet Glow

Posted by Beth on 8th March 2010

The day after the Academy’s most sites, especially beauty, fashion and celebrity are loaded with their takes on who they loved, and didn’t love. So with that being said, forgive us if we have indulged a little more than usual.

Jennifer Lopez who looked exceptionally radiant last night shimmered in pink silk organza, and matching pink cream highlighter. Her makeup which usually has more of a bronzed feel to it, was ‘Hollywood Glamour’ all the way! “I wanted to create an ethereal movie-star look,” said NARS makeup artist Matthew Vanleeuween, who created the look after being inspired by her dress. Mission accomplished Matthew!

Get Jennifer Lopez's Highlighted Cheekbones

“I kept the cheekbones high and highlighted with NARS Enchanted Cream Blush for a soft and supportive look. The eyes were tightly lined, top and bottom, and the brow bone was highlighted with a light shimmer to open the eyes, and define the brows. He finished with a wash of illuminator over her entire face to complete the effect.
