Backstage Beauty: Chloe Gets Sexier For Fall

Posted by Ingrid on 12th March 2010

Last season, the models raved about the loose waves and natural makeup at Chloe, calling it one of their favorite looks to wear down the runway. So naturally we were expecting this season’s collection to have a beauty look that was similar.

But we were in for a surprise with makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury who created the look, and in her words said, “it was more of a look this season.” “It’s still the Chloe girl, but we wanted them to feel sexy. It’s natural but with a little bit more direction.”

Chloe Beauty look

In other words, a smoky eye with a wash of gray over the eyelids, some bronzer on the cheeks, and a sheer caramel color on the lips. For the hair, hairstylist Guido did “sexy, gorgeous, bouncy Chloe hair” by raking a blow-dry cream through damp hair and then blowing the hair dry over a round brush.

Amy Winehouse Shows Off Her New Look

Posted by Lars on 12th March 2010

Ms. Winehouse pictured here out and about in London, was looking quite lovely compared to the usual emaciated look she so often has been seen in. Along with her new and improved complexion, were her signature Cat Eyes courtesy of Beth Bender Beauty’s Get in Line Eyeliner Kit. She was even seen purchasing a large bag full of vitamins and healthy food which seems to be working for her new and improved skin.

What’s the sudden change? We think it might be that Amy is preparing for her upcoming nuptials to her ex-husband, Blake Fielder Civil. And why shouldn’t Winehouse want to be beautiful on her wedding day.

The singer, 26, is often seen in scruffy ballet shoes and jeans which has brought her regular mentions on the worst dressed lists. But there’s no doubting her street-smart reputation and cultural impact, and one label has been ubiquitous in her wardrobe: British sportswear designer Fred Perry. Now, she has teamed with the firm, which is known for its Mod-style clean looks, to create a 17 piece clothing and accessories collection.

Winehouse and her fiancé have both been in and out of rehab, and have had a torrid on-and-off again relationship since they eloped in Miami in 2007, but still we wish her all the best on her upcoming nuptials, and her new clothing line for Fred Perry.

Jennifer Aniston Is Better Than Ever At 41!

Posted by The Girls at BSW on 12th March 2010

40 is definitely the new 20! Just look at Jennifer Aniston if you don’t believe us. The beautiful actress just turned 41, and boy does she look amazing!  Seen here on the cover of this month’s issue of “W” magazine. She joins her co-star Gerard Butler, in the upcoming comedy “The Bounty Hunter.”

Jennifer Aniston & Gerard Butler

The two are rumored to be dating, and were spotted cuddling at The Golden Globes, but we have learned not to read into that too much since we know for a fact the Gerard is quite the ladies man. Jen attributes her rock solid body to yoga which she has been doing for quite sometime. We only hope her golden glow is from a bottle, and not from baking in the sun.

Photographer Steven Klein, who also shot Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s blissful photo spread right after the Aniston-Pitt split, also shot the photos of Aniston and Butler. Hmm….coincidence?

Backstage Beauty: Giambattista Valli’s Nod to the ’60s

Posted by Ingrid on 11th March 2010

All we can say is we just l-o-v-e-d this look! From the dreamy cat eyes, to the ever-s0-sexy do, and sheer pale pink dress. The inspiration behind this fabulous look was ’60s-era Jean Shrimpton, who woke up after a late night of partying, makeup slept in from the night before, and hair casually twisted up before running out to get a cup of coffee? And thus, this disheveled updo and exaggerated eye makeup came alive at the Giambattista Valli show.

Sexy Retro Cat Eyes

Makeup artist Val Garland created the look but added more to the eyes for a more modern feel. “Giambattista wanted a little Jean Shrimpton on the eyes, but in a modern way, so we’re pushing it more,” said Garland backstage. “The look is flirtatious and sexy.” You can say that again.

To create the pointy winged liner that stretched out to the temples, Garland painted on the triangular shape using a brown cream liner, then outlined it with black cream liner so the edges were sharp. About an inch below the eyes, she drew a thin line of white cream liner that carried out to the temples, and then stacked two false lash strips on top of one another, and glued them to the top lashes for a super sexy effect. With all this action around the eyes, she took it easy on the rest of the face, sculpting the cheeks with beige and caramel blushes and swiping M.A.C. Lipstick in Siss, a matte beige, on the mouths.

“The hair is meant to look as though it was just pulled together in a minute,” said hairstylist Orlando Pita of the loose chignon. Of course, in reality it took a bit longer than that. Pita curled the hair with an iron, then teased it and parted it on the side. He pinned the hair back into a messy low bun, leaving a number of tendrils falling loose around the face. “At this show, the clothes and makeup are so perfect and impeccable,” he said. “So it’s a nice balance when the hair is a little off and undone.”

We couldn’t agree more. To create the Cat Eyes seen here, try a Cat Eye Stencil which will create the look simply by placing over the eye, and filling in with color. Try the Get in Line Eyeliner & Stencil Kit, $36 (bethbenderbeauty.com)

Get Elizabeth Banks Red Carpet Eyes

Posted by Lars on 9th March 2010

At the 2010 Academy Awards, Elizabeth Banks accentuated her icy gray Versace gown with eye shadows in the same hues. To get this smoky eye look , her inner eye lids were lined with a metallic gray color that was sexy and sparkly for the red carpet, without being too heavy.

Elizabeth Banks spring smoky eyes

Using a medium sized eyeshadow brush, a rich berry shimmer shadow was applied under the bottom lashes, and up into the crease, (try Good Girl, Gone Bad Eyeshadow palette, $36). To highlight the brow area, a matte ivory shadow was applied along the brow bone.

To finish the look, Elizabeth’s brows were defined by filling in the sparse area’s, and removing any stray hairs outside the actual shape. “Creating a strong and sculpted brow is a must when doing a look like this,” says celebrity artist Beth Bender.

Keep the lips on the lighter side with a nude or pale pink hue. Try Chasing the Cash (nude-beige shimmer) Perfect Pout Gloss, $16 bethbenderbeauty.com.

Posted by Lars on 9th March 2010

The gracious ladies at Kaplow P.R. in NYC know how to throw a breakfast par-TEA!  Remember St. Ives Apricot Facial Scrub…It was very grainy, even rough for sensitive faces like mine…But, everyone loved itSt. Ives has not only revamped their commitment to clear, smooth skin, but they have refined their product’s ingredients.

At Dawn Cameron’s Sanctuary T, located in the landmark cast iron district of SOHO, N.Y., I had the pleasure to drink some of the best teas in the world.  Dawn is so passionate about tea and it’s history, you can’t help but to walk away from Sanctuary T feeling relaxed, charged, and healthy.  The place has such an organic, calming feeling. (Sanctuary T was named 1 of the top healthiest and tastiest places to dine in NYC…It is also 1 of Kelly Cutrone’s favorite places…she pop’s in all the time!)  But, I’m getting side tracked…

Cameron Diaz’s Sexy Waves Inspired By Old Hollywood

Posted by The Girls at BSW on 8th March 2010

Red carpet gowns and up-dos were the signature look on many celebrities who attended last nights Oscars, but long hair when done well, can look fresh and modern on the red carpet too. Just look at Cameron Diaz, who certainly showed that down-dos can be equally as chic.

Get Cameron Diaz's Hair 2010 Oscars

The blond bombshell went for classic Hollywood waves to complement her beaded gold Oscar de la Renta strapless gown. Her hair stylist Lona Vigi, who created the style, used the “cool air” switch while blow drying to set waves in place.

“I also used the Volumizer Catalyst product from LiQWD, which is the greatest product for fine hair,” said Vigi. “Then we hot-rollered her whole head, so she could wear the waves swept to one side, old Hollywood-style.”

Our Favorite Beauty Looks: Oscars 2010

Posted by Ingrid on 8th March 2010

Nicole Richie took her signature cat-eye makeup one step further by layering a thick black gel liner with shapely silver and deep gray shadow. She added a strip of false lashes to finish her starlet, ’60s-inspired look, and we just loved it! Making them the most dramatic eyes of the evening.Nicole Richie's Cat eyes
Red Carpet Beauty How To: To get Nicole’s Cat Eyeliner, start with the eyeshadow first. Apply a pale silver shimmer to the eyelid, followed by a dark gray shadow in the crease, and extending the color so it ends right below the eyebrow. Try the BFF Smoky Eye Palette, and use the Cat Eyeliner Stencil included in the kit for creating perfect eyeliner just like Nicole’s.
Once you have done eyeliner on both eyes, have the desired thickness, and point, using a black gel eyeliner trace over shape to set the color, and prevent smudging. Try Stay Put Gel Eyeliner in Onyx.
SarahJParker
Our other Favorite Red Carpet look last night at the Oscars was Sarah Jessica Parker’s gorgeous hair, and tons of it! This look totally worked, (although many thought not), and we liked her Chanel Haute Couture gown  that was simple, yet so complex at the same time with a one of a kind neckline. Stacked bangles and large cluster earrings added more bling to her mix, and perfectly applied eyeliner made her stunning green eyes, even greener. The artfully woven pieces showed off her impeccable hair color, which was a blend of honey and rich brunette.
Note To Our Readers: Last night in Hollywood the weather was touch and go. The rain thankfully did not come, but many other sites not based in Los Angeles were commenting on Ms. Parker’s fly-away’s, and if you looked closely there were many other ladies who had the same problem.  As far as the buns go, we think it was a smart move considering the mess that could have been if it had poured as predicted by our fabulous weather people.
