Get the look: Katherine Heigl at the One for the Money premiere

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 26th January 2012

I’ve long been a fan of Janet Evanovich’s fun novels about bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. In  my own mind, I had the roles of the characters cast including Sandra Bullock as Stephanie Plum and Dwayne Johnson as  sexy Ranger. But for some reason, the producers didn’t consult me before casting the film!? The plum role (har har) went to Katherine Heigland here she is at the  premiere.

If you are a starlet looking to make a splash on the red carpet, the color RED will do the trick. With the right hair and makeup, red can be not only flattering but bold and eye catching. But we arent here to talk about her dress which I really like. We are dissecting her coif!

“Celebrity hairstylist David Babaii created her red carpet look using Grace Kelly as his inspiration. To transform your tresses from brown to a “Hollywood Blonde” David recommends using the professional hair color Aquarly 20/20 by IT&LY HAIRFASHION to achieve a long-lasting, natural and healthy looking shade.

To create this Grace Kelly inspired look, David started with IT&LY’S Advanced Color Protection Shampoo and Conditioner. After gently towel drying, he applied a small amount of Miracle Oil Hair Elixir by David Babaii for its intense conditioning benefits, superior color preservation and thermal protection.

Next, after blow drying, he used a medium sized curling iron creating curls and directing them off the face and under. To style, David lightly back brushed the fringe area for some height and smoothed this lightly with a medium paddle brush.

He continued the style by using his fingers to loosen the curls into soft waves and drawing all the hair into a loose chignon toward the back of the head and securing with silver coated bobby pins. David finished the style with IT&LY HAIR FASHION’S Pure Definition Hair Spray.”

How To Look Red Carpet Ready Like Top Celebrities Every Day

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 25th January 2012

Okay girls, I know we aren’t all cut from the same cloth and not all of us were given ‘perfect features’…HOWEVER, we can take what the big man above gave us and make the best of it.  Believe it or not, there are celebrities who do just that!

best female celebrity looks

Sarah Jessica Parker

One of our favorite celebs is Sarah Jessica Parker…Not really equipped with the perfect features, but this girl knows how to dress and make the most of what she has.  Jessica is always camera ready with her beautiful sparkling blue/green eyes!  Although she has a long face and nose, Jessica looks great with a slicked back pony tail, cat eyes with silvery shadow on her lids and a mauve shadow in her crease.  A little bronzer dusted on her cheeks and forehead, an elaborate necklace over her putter dress and she is Red Carpet Ready.

best looks of kirsten dunst

Kirsten Dunst

Another one of our favorite spunky celebs who knows how to highlight her best features is Kirsten Dunst.  Kirsten’s skin always looks flawless and just radiates.  Her makeup is simple and clean.  To get this look try using a brightening skincare product followed by an SPF of 25 or higher.  Your skin will love you!

celebrities who look better with makeup

Tina Fey

Now if you wear glasses and have the attitude of “why bother putting on makeup,” then check out Tina Fey.  She knows how to take her look and give it a little boost.  Tina being a mother of 2 youngsters, tends to sometimes forget about herself.  Are you like this too?  No need to worry.  Once you get the kids down, treat yourself to a home facial lifting mask that will restore your self worth and lift your face at the same time!  Sudden Youth is the perfect skincare line for all ages.  Especially for us gals who have been around the block a few times:)  2 times a week we gently sweep on our Facial Contour Recovery Lift and before we know it, we are calm, cool, collected and more youthful looking!

For a daytime into night look try some lengthening mascara to help accentuate your beautiful eyes behind your glasses.  There is no excuse for letting yourself not look and feel good!  5 minutes is all you need…even with the kids banging on the bathroom door and barging in!

how celebrities enhance their beauty

Katy Perry

Katy Perry is famous for constantly changing up her looks.  But without makeup, Katy is just another average Jane.  This girl knows how to work it!  Bravo to her since it has made her millions…Katy adds extra lashes to her big blue eyes followed by several coats of mascara.  Katy’s eyes are her best feature and she knows exactly how to enhance them.  Her hair is always different which makes her stand out even more.  If you want to be adventurous, head over to your nearest salon and go for it!  Do something different yet versatile.  You can even try a rinse just in case you aren’t ready to make it permanent.

So, start looking at yourself in the mirror or ask your closest friend to point out your fabulous features and then work it baby!!!

‘Okay Mr. DeMille…We’re ready for our close up…’

Celebrity Hair Styles: Short Hair Is Coming Back

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 25th January 2012

When I was younger, my earliest hairstyle was a little something called The Dorothy Hamill wedge. I had that coif  for years.  For some reason, and I don’t know what I was thinking, I cut my hair super short. I distinctly remember telling the hair stylist, “Really short, like over my ears.”

Imagine a very gawky pre-teen with super short hair, pale skin, braces and a headgear wearing overalls. Not my best look. Ever since that terribly short hair do, I vowed never again.

Molly Ringwald's short do from the 80's

There was the Molly Ringwald phase where I wanted to look like (and be) Molly. I cut my hair into a cloud of fluff and teased the front, nice and high and very stiff.  You  might have guessed this was the 80′s. And now, as an adult with admittedly thin, fine hair, there is not much to do other than trim it or go short.

hottest trend in hair

Cameron Diaz

I’ve been watching Cameron Diaz lately because she trimmed her hair a while back to shoulder length but then really went for it, cutting her locks into a short ‘do that I think looks pretty cute. Naturally, when you are as pretty as Cameron, you can do almost anything and look good.

I’m toying with the idea of going shorter but I worried I couldn’t pull my hair into a ponytail (right now its the size of a baby carrot) or bun ( the size of a Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkin, if  that big). Here Cam shows us that even with short hair, you can still stick a bunch of bobby pins in there and make it work! Up or down, I’m digging the style.

Jennifer Aniston

I just read somewhere important like US or Glamour or People, that Jennifer Aniston is going with  shorter hair too. Did you know she wore hair extentions? Apparently her hair is worn out from them. And here I thought those golden locks were all hers!

Kate Bosworth’s skin glows at Sundance–find out how here

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 23rd January 2012

For an event at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah over the weekend, Kate Bosworth’s makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan wanted to be sure the star’s face was clear and happy—in spite of the harsh conditions.

how does Kate Bosworth keep her skin glowing in dry weather

She started by massaging a soothing cream all over Bosworth’s face and neck, turning next to an under-eye moisturizer and a gentle serum, which she applied in small circles outward from the center of the face. “Kate has amazing skin so she really doesn’t need a heavy foundation. I went with a sheer-glow formula that evens out the skin tone without a heavy coverage,” Deenihan said.  A dusting of mineral powder and a creamy poppy blush dabbed on the apples of the cheeks were the finishing touches.

Now if we can just get someone to do the same for her hair.  A bit of a stringy mess wouldn’t you say?

Blake Lively shows us how to get glowy skin

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 19th January 2012

At a screening of Haywire in New York City, Blake Lively’s flawless complexion was front and center, even in the dead of winter.  If your skin is naturally clear, a tinted foundation topped with a sheer highlighting powder can take it to the next level.

get glowing skin like Blake Lively with 2 simples steps

The lightweight lotion will even skin tone and lend extra radiance; a gentle dusting of powder brightens dull areas and can provide a bit of extra coverage. Apply powder in a polishing motion, using small circular motions to ensure it’s fully blended and doesn’t settle into fine lines.

The New Beachy Wave seen on Kristen Wiig at the 2012 Golden Globes

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 17th January 2012

“Working with Kristen Wiig for the Golden Globes was a dream come true. She’s smart, she’s funny, and she’s drop-dead gorgeous,” hairstylist Mark Townsend told us.  Because her dress and jewelry were so dramatic, he went for lush but low-key hair.  “I wanted volume on the sides, but not on top, and a matte finish. I think that’s so modern,” he said.

Using Dove products, Townsend worked a dollop of mousse into damp hair and blew it dry with a round brush.  Next, he spritzed three-inch sections with hairspray before wrapping them around a curling iron, and raking through each spiral with his fingers to break-up the waves.  “This isn’t a beachy wave. This is something new,” he adds.

Get the look: Julianna Marguiles at the 2012 Golden Globes

Posted by Cindy Bokma on 16th January 2012

She’s always been one of my favorites with her dark hair and beautiful skin. I’ve liked Julianna Marguilies since she was Nurse Hathaway on ER. Didn’t you just LOVE the love story between her character and George Clooney’s character? Ahhhh. Here at the Golden Globes, she is stunning in her purple gown. The unexpected pop of color from the earrings was a brilliant choice!

JULIANNA MARGULIES /Makeup Artist: Kristofer Buckle

Inspiration: For Julianna’s makeup, Kris was inspired by Julianna’s deep mauve, metallic Naeem Khan dress. He wanted to create something that would complement its texture and liquid-like flow.

Step by Step How-To:

For the night, Kris kept Julianna’s skin simple with glowing soft tones to accentuate her olive skin

To keep Julianna’s complexion looking flawless he used L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup in Soft Ivory

For her cheeks he applied L’Oréal Paris Magic Smooth Soufflé Blush in Plume

The eyes really took center stage with a soft smoky eye that was created with watercolor-like shades using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Bronzed Taupe, Eternal Sunshine and Iced Latte

To tie the look together Kris used a hint L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte on Julianna’s upper cheeks to tie in the eyes and glowing tones of her skin

Lips were left unlined and highlighted natural tones (with a hint of mauve) using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Forever Frappe

Golden Globe Beauty–Zooey Deschanel’s Mod Cat Eyeliner Look

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 16th January 2012

get zooey deschanel's cat eyeliner look from the Golden Globes 2012

At the 2012 Golden Globes Awards, Best Actress nominee Zooey Deschanel won our hearts with her mod cat-eyes courtesy of makeup artist Jorjee Douglass. Using Rimmel products, Douglass blended black and silver shadows along the lid to create the swooping shape, concentrating black shadow in the crease for dimension.

A back-and-forth swipe of a black gel liner along the top lashline, and a few feathery strokes of black pencil along the bottom were the final touches.  As was a generous coating of rich mascara to give Zooey’s eye that retro look we are still talking about today.  To achieve perfect cat eyeliner without the help of a professional makeup artist Jorjee suggests the Get in Line Eyeliner Stencil Kit from beth bender beauty.
