Get Vera Farmiga’s Look From The Oscars

Posted by The Girls at BSW on 8th March 2010

Supporting actress nominee for “Up In the Air” Vera Farmiga took a big fashion risk with her huge, ruffled fuschia-toned Marchesa gown. To balance out her look, hairstylist Lona Vigi, who also created Cameron Diaz’s do, kept Vera’s tresses low-key, but still full enough to see the hair from straight on.

Vera Farmiga 2010 Oscar

“It’s a lot of dress,” Vigi said, “and it’s beautiful and vibrant, so we basically wanted to keep the hair off her face, but also keep it strong.” The key to creating the look was making sure Farmiga’s hairstyle complemented her narrow face shape. “We wanted to make sure we saw hair on the bottom when you looked at her straight-on, especially with her face shape. I didn’t just want to have no hair.”

Vigi achieved volume on top and bottom, without losing the pretty proportions by First drying Farmiga’s hair with a Velecta Paramount blow-drier, using Volumizing Catalyst for lifting the roots from LiQWD, and for added volume on top, she used a round brush and concentrated on the roots.

Next Vigi gently back-combed the hair on top and in the back to get a little lift all-around. She then tied the bottom section to the nape of her neck with an elastic, wrapping the ponytail, section by section, into a loose chignon secured by bobby pins. “Vera’s like me, we don’t like hair super constricted, so it looks really serious,” she said.

Next, the hairdresser added a Fred Leighton diamond brooch to her hair on the left-back side for a little extra bling, and finally, she sprayed the entire look with L’oreal Elnett hairspray for a light hold.

Cameron Diaz’s Sexy Waves Inspired By Old Hollywood

Posted by The Girls at BSW on 8th March 2010

Red carpet gowns and up-dos were the signature look on many celebrities who attended last nights Oscars, but long hair when done well, can look fresh and modern on the red carpet too. Just look at Cameron Diaz, who certainly showed that down-dos can be equally as chic.

The blond bombshell went for classic Hollywood waves to complement her beaded gold Oscar de la Renta strapless gown. Her hair stylist Lona Vigi, who created the style, used the “cool air” switch while blow drying to set waves in place.

“I also used the Volumizer Catalyst product from LiQWD, which is the greatest product for fine hair,” said Vigi. “Then we hot-rollered her whole head, so she could wear the waves swept to one side, old Hollywood-style.”

Our Favorite Beauty Looks: Oscars 2010

Posted by Ingrid on 8th March 2010

Nicole Richie took her signature cat-eye makeup one step further by layering a thick black gel liner with shapely silver and deep gray shadow. She added a strip of false lashes to finish her starlet, ’60s-inspired look, and we just loved it! Making them the most dramatic eyes of the evening.Nicole Richie's Cat eyes
Red Carpet Beauty How To: To get Nicole’s Cat Eyeliner, start with the eyeshadow first. Apply a pale silver shimmer to the eyelid, followed by a dark gray shadow in the crease, and extending the color so it ends right below the eyebrow. Try the BFF Smoky Eye Palette, and use the Cat Eyeliner Stencil included in the kit for creating perfect eyeliner just like Nicole’s.
Once you have done eyeliner on both eyes, have the desired thickness, and point, using a black gel eyeliner trace over shape to set the color, and prevent smudging. Try Stay Put Gel Eyeliner in Onyx.
SarahJParker
Our other Favorite Red Carpet look last night at the Oscars was Sarah Jessica Parker’s gorgeous hair, and tons of it! This look totally worked, (although many thought not), and we liked her Chanel Haute Couture gown  that was simple, yet so complex at the same time with a one of a kind neckline. Stacked bangles and large cluster earrings added more bling to her mix, and perfectly applied eyeliner made her stunning green eyes, even greener. The artfully woven pieces showed off her impeccable hair color, which was a blend of honey and rich brunette.
Note To Our Readers: Last night in Hollywood the weather was touch and go. The rain thankfully did not come, but many other sites not based in Los Angeles were commenting on Ms. Parker’s fly-away’s, and if you looked closely there were many other ladies who had the same problem.  As far as the buns go, we think it was a smart move considering the mess that could have been if it had poured as predicted by our fabulous weather people.

Best Beauty Looks At The 2010 Oscars: Sexy Cat Eyes

Posted by The Girls at BSW on 7th March 2010

Since early this week, television crews, and correspondents from all over the world have been claiming their territory on the red carpet to cover this years Academy Awards. Held at the Kodak Center on Hollywood Blvd for close to 10 years, and in just a few short hours it will be filled with celebrities galore. Our favorite part of the entire evening at BSW is of course the glorious ‘red carpet’. So special a name, it deserves its own definition in the dictionary, and may in fact already have one.

Get Emily Blunt's Sexy cat Eyes

Many of the women attending tonight have been getting ready since early this morning, with hair, makeup, nails, styling, and let’s not forget all of the treatments prior to even today. Whatever looks you will see tonight, will be featured on every beauty site, beauty magazine, celebrity gossip show, and of course our favorite magazine for celebrity coverage, People, by weeks end.

The beauty will probably bare some resemblance to looks seen at last falls spring fashion shows, so look for smoky eyes in pinks, purples, light blues, and blues, skin that shimmers, and is flawless skin, and bright  lip colors in pinks and reds.  Emily Blunt who looked just lovely at this years Golden Globes may decide to do her beautiful cat eyes since they were such a hit. Blunt’s lavender hue was the ideal compliment to her light green eyes, auburn hair and fair skin, and her perfectly applied cat eyeliner pulled the entire look together.

To get the look without a makeup artist standing by, our celebrity artist Beth Bender of Beth Bender Beauty suggests trying two or three shades of lavender from the same color family. “Apply the lightest shadow to the inner corners of your eyes, the medium on your lids and the darkest along your lashline.” Beth Bender Beauty’s Spring Trio Palette in OMG! or TDF,($36, bethbenderbeauty.com) “does the work of matching a pink, purple and lavender for you,” says Bender.

But, for the ultimate Cat Eyeliner as seen here on Emily, you must check out the Cat Eyeliner Stencil that comes with the palette. It does the sexiest cat eye ever in under 30 seconds flat. You can use an eyeliner sealant to keep the liner from smudging, or go over the shadow with a gel liner once you have your cat eyes finished.

See you on the Red Carpet!

Get Emilie de Ravin’s Red Carpet Smoky Eyes

Posted by Lars on 6th March 2010

Emilie de Ravin of Lost on ABC, who is also starring opposite Robert Pattinson in Remember Me, had flawless skin, and softly sculpted eyes at the movie’s premiere in New York City.

Get sultry smoky eyes in Grays

“I was inspired by the soft tonal palette of Emilie’s dress, hair and shoes,” said her makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua, who created the look. For her red carpet eyes, she blended a mix of black and shimmery pewter shadows (gray in color) along the lids (try the BFF Get in Line Eyeliner Kit, $36 bethbenderbeauty.com), using less of the black especially at the lashline.

To keep the eyes from looking too heavy, Kara applied a light coat of black mascara on the top lashes, and on the bottom, a brown, and yes, it was a look to remember.

Get Blake Lively’s Perfect Cat Eyes For Spring

Posted by Ingrid on 5th March 2010

Blake Lively paired a soft, metallic pink shadow with an artfully applied winged cat liner. “A pale pink shimmer shadow, and vibrant pink lip gloss compliment the Gossip Girl’s very alluring eyes,” says celebrity makeup artist Beth Bender who has worked with Blake in the past.

Get Blake Lively's Sexy Cat Eyes

The pink shimmer shadow goes perfectly with her golden locks, and sun-kissed skin. To get the look says Bender, “When you’re wearing such a soft shadow, you need a strong eyeliner that won’t budge.” “Apply a gel liner, like Onyx Stay Put Gel Liner ($18, bethbenderbeauty.com), in an outer sweeping direction, ending the wing at the edge of the brow.”

Beth’s Beauty Tip: The easiest way to achieve a perfect cat eye, is to start by creating the shape with a Cat Eyeliner Stencil, and then applying the gel liner over to set the shape and color. To do, hold the cat eyeliner stencil over your eye, and with your brush, sweep a charcoal shade across the lid, and remove. Wipe, and repeat on the other eye.

Once you have the desired shape, and thickness, finish with a gel liner. For a pink shimmer, and charcoal shadow, try the Lights, Camera, Action! Eyeshadow Palette ($36, bethbenderbeauty.com)

Are Celebrity Gifting Suites Losing Their Status?

Posted by Beth on 4th March 2010

It seems as though anyone these days can gain access to the ‘Celebrity Only’ Gifting Suites that usually happen days before an awards show. The Suites go into over-drive during award season in Hollywood, where “gift” is a verb, and swag suites are as common as open bars and black-tie parties. Take Snookie and her “Jersey Shore” cast mates for instance, who perused the offerings at a recent Golden Globe gifting suite. (I am still trying to figure that one out). They weren’t up for any awards, and yet had no problems what so ever filling their bags with custom-made jewelry, certificates for spa treatments, Lasik surgery if you can believe that, and clothing, shoes and perfume.

'Snookie' From The Jersey Shore

'Snookie' From The Jersey Shore

The way it usually works, and the folks who are there promoting their goods can only hope, is that the rich-and-famous celebs load up on free stuff they could easily afford, and don’t even need. In return, they pose for photos with the products they receive, and companies use those pictures to promote their brands.

However, this is slowly changing in a way that has a lot of people feeling slighted, and the once famous gifting suites are beginning to sour. As gifting has become more popular and more public, top stars rarely even show up anymore. They might be hoping for Sandra Bullock and Jeff Bridges, but end up with Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. The press, who also play a big role in getting their product exposed, linked to a celebrity, and in turn increasing revenue, receive nothing when attending these suites, but reality stars like ‘Snookie’ are treated like A-list Celebrities.

Understandably it would be in poor taste, especially in this economy, for a Matt Damon-caliber celebrity to be photographed carrying a big bag of free swag, but who is getting them, is definitely changing the status of what was once a very exclusive event. So much so, that now, gifting firms send their swanky gift bags directly to the stars’ homes so they can enjoy their goods in private.

In the end, the ultimate goal of any of these Gifting Suites is to sell more products, and gain even more exposure, but I seriously doubt anyone will be running out to get Lasik surgery, or beauty products from Valerie just because they saw a snap shot of ‘Snookie’ holding a gift bag.
