Spoiler Alert! Last night’s dramatic finale of NBC’s “Fashion Star” changed one talented designer’s life forever as Kara was named America’s first Fashion Star! This inaugural season was full of designer quarrels, pressure-induced meltdowns, and of course … runway-worthy hair. The energy for the finale was through the roof as the last three designers standing –  Kara, Nzimiro and Ronnie – battled to take home the grand prize, a $6 million contract and the opportunity to have their collection sold at each of the retailers – Saks Fifth Avenue, H&M and Macy’s.

For our final week, we’re taking you behind-the-scenes as Suave Professionals® Celebrity Stylist Theodore Leaf styles his last runway show with models Paloma, Jordyn and Cambria. Click here to watch the webisode.

After consulting with Kara for her final look Theodore suggested the models do something a little different (for Kara, at least!) and wear their hair down but alas, Kara wanted to continue with her signature updo style with tons of volume. For the finale, Theodore took the look to the highest of heights (literally!) and gave Cambria a punk rock look for the runway.  To recreate the final winning look (and channel your inner rocker), try the following steps:

Finale of NBC Fashion Star

1.       Start by sectioning the hair in two – top half and bottom half. Twist the top half up and secure with a hair stick to get it out of the way.

2.       Taking the bottom section of hair, pull the right side back flat against your head and secure with a bobby pin. Be sure to smooth the hair so it’s slicked back and clean. Repeat on the left side.

3.       Next, remove the hair stick from the top of the head. Take one-inch sections of hair and spray the roots with Suave Professionals® Touchable Finish Extra Hold Hairspray to create grip for teasing. Then using a brush, tease the hair at the roots for extra high volume.

4.       Gently brush the hair in a backward motion to smooth top layer, but be careful not to lose the volume you just created. Curl the ends under and secure with bobby pins. Lightly spray with hairspray to set.

5.       Complete this high volume look with Suave Professionals Men® Wet Look Styling Gel (don’t be afraid to snag your guy’s products – especially for an extreme look like this!). Dispense a dollop into your hand, emulsify and smooth the sides. If needed, use a toothbrush to tame any flyaways.

Drumroll please! With just one more runway show to go, last night’s episode of NBC’s “Fashion Star” was truly a nail biter as not one but three contestants were sent home!  The six remaining designers – Kara, Ronnie, Orly, Nikki, Nzimiro and Luciana had to pull out all the stops and impress the buyers in order to have the chance to show in next week’s finale!

Latest hair style on NBC Fashion Star

Look 1: Designer Kara brought Theodore an “inspiration” photo – a clean updo with volume on top – which Theodore warmly coins as the “Kara special.” She wanted to stay true to her signature style to the end – she requested the same look every week for her models.  But in order to keep it fresh this week, Theodore put a slightly different twist on her classic look and added extra volume on top. To create the style, Theodore sectioned the hair, slicking the bottom half back into a French twist and teasing the top portion and pinning it up. He relied on Suave Professionals^® Touchable Finish Lightweight Hold Hairspray to hold the look in place for the runway show.

Look 2: Designer Nikki wanted a soft, 30’s feel, but Theodore helped guide Nikki to try a new version of a style she had loved in a previous episode. Look 1: Designer Nikki strolls into the salon looking to Theodore to create a sexy, messy look.  As Theodore knows, sometimes designers need a special element that gives them an edge. He decides on bang extensions to instantly transform Monroe and give her a whole new look!

Look 2: Designer Orly initially asks for a high ponytail with a long braid but Theodore immediately nixes this idea as he is “so over ponytails!” Theodore decides to spice up the look by creating French pigtail braids but with a twist, of course!

Look 1: Theodore can’t wait to hear what look designer Kara wants this time around and was not shocked to hear that she wanted an androgynous look … again. Theodore fears she, like most other designers, is in a style rut. Selena Gomez magically has long hair again, surprised?  Not in this town. Ha! Thanks to Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, owners of Nine Zero One Salon in Los Angeles, who converted her long bob into down-to-there strands this week. “This look works well because it gives her such variety,” Lee and Capri told BeautyStyleWatch.com exclusively.

“With her busy schedule, shooting films and going to awards shows, she needs versatility.” The salon owners used Great Lengths Extensions on the star, who debuted the look via Twitter.

My favorite hair salon in Los Angeles is opening its doors in Brentwood, California tomorrow.  Yes, Byu-ti Salon in Brentwood on San Vicente Blvd, the very swanky neighborhood that is home to so many celebs, including Ben and Jen Affleck, and the former Governor Arnold and wife Maria Shriver.

Y’all know how twisted I am when it comes to these locks, and let me tell you this salon ROCKS hard!! I was just there on Friday at the Santa Monica location to give my color and highlights a pop with expert, Andi Scarbrough who is super busy making everyone look beautiful but still found time for me.

Of course I had to look fabulous since I was attending the Kid’s Choice Awards with my niece and popping backstage to say hello to some of my clients. Mission accomplished, my color was bang on and I left doing my happy dance:-)

The new salon in Brentwood which opens tomorrow, will share the same message of giving, and Byu-Ti’s goal to “serve” with integrity, excellence and professionalism.  I have been a client for almost 2 years and just love it! I am super excited to now have 2 locations where I can go to get my beauty groove on.

The design for the new salon is decorated in an Asian inclination with warm modernist tones, and framed with white mirrors and floor to ceiling windows.  Ebony wood stations and chocolate leather chairs accent the makeup, styling and washing stations with dramatic contrast.
