Celebrity Alert: Lea Michele on December Cover of Allure
Posted by BSW Buzz on November 16th, 2011
“Glee” star Lea Michele is dishing out her roller coaster ride to fame in Allure’s December issue. Now 25, the actress had an especially disturbing meeting that left her singing the blues, back when she was actually a high school student and not just playing one on TV. “When I was 15, my mother and I went to meet a manager who said, ‘You have to get a nose job in order for me to work with you,’ ” Michele tells Allure. “My mother would say to me, ‘Barbra Streisand never got a nose job. You’re not getting a nose job.’ And this was before I really even knew who Barbra was. I just knew that she was, like, the messiah for girls like me.” (actually Babes did…it’s just not spoken about and it’s not like you can really see a noticeable difference)
Michele stuck with acting despite the slam and it wasn’t just her nose that got her noticed. At 20, she had a role in the original Broadway cast of “Spring Awakening” that required her to get naked with co-star Jonathan Groff. “Every night he dropped his pants and I took off my top,” she says. “So depending on where you were seated, on one side of us or the other, people who were going to see the show would be like, ‘What side were you sitting on? The butt or the boobs?’ ”
After finding success in New York City’s theater world, Michele soon turned her attention to conquering Hollywood, where the first audition she went on was for “Glee.” She won the part of Rachel Berry and within two months her entire life changed and not entirely for the better…On Broadway, “the word ‘diva’ was awesome,” says Michele. Not so in L.A.
Rumors that fame had gone to her head quickly sprung up, especially after a photographer at a Time magazine party asked who she was. She reportedly replied, “Sarah Palin.” A remark that was immediately interpreted as “Don’t you know who I am?” “I was being silly,” Michele explains. “But anyway, that’s a huge thing I learned … Not everybody knows you and has the same sense of humor. At the same time, if I couldn’t be myself, I’d lose my mind.” (and not to mention that LA does not have the same sense of humor as NYC…just saying…)
Unfortunately for Lea, this wasn’t the last time she would have to tune out scandal. Besides causing an uproar when she and “Glee” co-star Dianna Agron wore sexy schoolgirl outfits during a Rolling Stone photo shoot, Michele came under scrutiny for having a possible eating disorder when she suddenly looked much thinner over the summer of 2010. “That’s the furthest thing from the truth,” she says. She revealed that she lost the weight due to a surgery she underwent for an infection in her jaw.
“People get confused, like, you know, I just eat grass,” she jokes about her vegan diet. “I’m half Italian. I can eat some b—-es under the table.”
The new issue of Allure featuring Michele hits newsstands Nov. 22.
