Jay-Z is in a GQ state of mind.  The Brooklyn-born rapper graces the magazine’s December cover for its annual “Men of the Year” issue, on newsstands Nov. 22.

In the issue, the 41-year-old reveals that it was wife Beyoncé’s decision to announce she was pregnant at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.  “It was actually Bey who wanted to (announce) it,” he says. “You want to be in control of your life.”  Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, also opens up about a time growing up in which he couldn’t be in total control especially when his father walked out on the family.  “To have that connection and then have it ripped away was, like, the worst. My dad was such a good dad that when he left, he left a huge scar. He was my superhero.”

Another man who sometimes gives Jay trouble? Kanye West.  The two are in sync performing on stage during their “Watch the Throne” tour, but in the studio it’s a completely different story especially when West starts obsessing over all the tiny details.  “I think he just can’t help himself,” Jay says. “He puts so much into everything, and he’s like, ‘You have to treat it like I treat it.’ It drives you crazy sometimes — like when you’ve put 75 versions of a snare on one song and he’s like, ‘No!’ and you’re like, ‘Come on, man.’ ”

While Jay-Z appears on his own GQ cover, the rapper shares the magazine’s annual honor with three other men and one woman.  Funny duo Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon get hands-on as they share a cover together, while “X-Men: First Class” star Michael Fassbender and the oh-so-hot Mila Kunis appear on two other versions.
