Cover Your Grays Without Compromising Your Style At Byu-ti Salon Los Angeles

Whoever said plucking out your first gray hair would only bring more may have been right, but trust me, when the first one comes you might just be grabbing for the nearest tweezers. For anyone who knows me well, knows I am slightly obsessed with my hair. I don’t really indulge in too many things but when it comes to my hair, I do. So naturally when the first few grays starting appearing I got out my tweezers and started plucking them out. This of course became a battle that I would never win, and even the touch-ups on my roots were coming in way too quickly.
But not to worry, this story has a very happy ending. On Wednesday of last week I took myself and my hair to the only salon in Los Angeles that I trust, Byu-ti Salon in Santa Monica, and after consulting with Natasha, and Rae who was the genius behind my color, it was decided that the best way to cover up those darn grays was to add some low lights around the hair line and part line. Fast forward and an hour later I was sitting in Natasha’s chair where she worked her magic giving me another amazing cut and style.
Natasha and Rae were super sweet to give me their tips on color and cuts for covering grays, and summer styles for us gals with long hair so I could share them with you.
Rae: What are the best tips for someone who is just beginning to see the grays coming as far as coverage/color?
Rae: For someone who has dark hair and does not want to go full on blonde highlights, what are the options?
Add some lighter pieces around the face, and a few right through your part-line to brighten and blend. This will help soften the contrast of the gray against the darker hair.
Rae: As a Pureology Educator and Redken Certified Colorist what are the benefits of using Redkin products and Pureology on the hair?
Redken color just lasts. It often stays as vibrant as the day you left the salon. And Pureology has an Anti-fade complex in every single Pureology product so it really helps the color to hold up. Also, the shampoos are all zero-sulfate, which means there’s no harsh detergents. The two lines in conjunction help maintain the color and the integrity of the hair until your next color service.
Natasha: Can the hairstyle/cut help to conceal the grey and if so what do you recommend?
Natasha: What are some of your favorite styles for summer hair, and which products work best to protect the color?
Natasha: Do you have any tips you can share with women who wear their hair long as far as styling? Especially when the weather gets warmer.
Go a little more natural in the summer. For example, instead of blow drying then using the curling iron. Try letting your hair dry naturally or washing the night before then just hitting your hair with a curling iron in a few key spots for a more natural effect. To make sure the hair still looks glossy, add a little product. I’m loving Pureology’s Cutcle Polisher. Amazing stuff. Apply it to wet hair and even add a little after your style is complete for extra shine.
And there you have it. For anyone who lives in the Los Angeles area, or near by, and is looking for a new salon, make it Byu-ti. For the third consecutive year, Byu-ti has been selected for the 2011 Best of Santa Monica Award in the “Hair Salons” category by the U.S. Commerce Association.
