The Grammy’s may be over but we are still talking about the looks from the red carpet and the evening. Jennifer Hudson’s sexy smoky eyes for one. This singing sensation has become so tiny in size we almost didn’t recognize her, but her amazing voice was a dead give away.  Looking gorgeous with pin straight hair and eyes that sparkled on the RC.  We loved everything about this look, including her perfectly even, and flawless complexion. Her eyes looked simple, but truth be told there was lots of layering going on.

A silvery shade at the inner corners fades to a slate gray at the outer edges, and a rose-gold shadow along the brow bone adds dimension and warmth. To get the look we asked our own in-house celebrity artist Beth Bender, and smoky eye expert. Here’s what she had to say:

1. Start by adding your lighter colors first, keeping the inner eye lightest.When doing a look like this you want to add at least a few layers of the silver shimmer to the inner corner. You can use your fingers, and press the color on the eyelid.

2. Apply a slate gray shadow to the outer crease, blending back and forth, and outwards. This will create an elongated look that will instantly open your eyes.

3. To finish the look apply an Onyx Gel Eyeliner from the center of eyelid, and increase the thickness as you get towards the end of eye. Extend the color up to create the cat eye look seen here on Jennifer. You can also sweep the liner underneath as well but make sure to taper towards the center of eye. For an easy and perfect eyeliner, try using an eye shadow stencil first with a damp brush and a charcoal eyeshadow. Once you have the desired shape, then go over your cat eyeliner with your Onyx Gel Liner.
