Backstage Beauty: Betsey Johnson In The New York Groove
Posted by Beth on September 23rd, 2010
The one show that I was the most excited about attending at this season’s 2011 spring fashion week was Betsey Johnson. For as long as I can remember I have been a big fan of the line, and of course Betsey who I think is amazing! Not to mention the fact that she is a Leo like myself.
My best friend Mimi of too many years to admit to, flew in from Hawaii and I got to experience the show standing next to my BFF. As I watched each model make their way down the runway I began making my spring shopping list while listening to great music, and thinking back to when Mimi and I first fell in love with Betsey Johnson. From the cute short pleated skirts, to the floral tops and pants, that was all it took, and I was hooked. Fast forward to one of my most recent trips to Hawaii where I purchased a pair of silver glitter pollys, bambi dress, a few fabulous purses, and the sexiest lingerie ever. Talk about happy…I was over the moon in love.
Backstage at Betsey Johnson’s Spring 2011 fashion show, bright moss green adorned the eye lids, hair was wind-blown braids and ponytails, and nails were triple striped with hot pink, royal navy and yellow.
The show carried a super-fun bicycle theme, with colorful flounces of chiffon dresses, gold-buttoned navy wear and teeny-tiny short sport sets that looked like models had just rode in on a bicycle which Betsey herself did during the finale, before jumping into her trademark cartwheel-bow.
Stila who created the look for the show took the bicycle theme and went for it. First by highlighting each face with colors only a model could pull off, and hair that looked as if it had blown through miles of high wind. Green powder shadow was applied and mixed with water for a wet acrylic paint-like look, and hot pink painted the apples of the cheeks. Fuchsia pink lips lacquered the lips of models who added even more of a stain by licking lollipops and downing the Swedish Fish, Skittles, M&M’s and Twizzler’s available in candy plate spreads backstage. Yum!
Thank you so much Betsey for your amazing designs, always putting a smile on my face whenever I am wearing anything from you, and most importantly, inspiring so many designers to create from the heart.
