Summer Beauty Trend: The Dark, Smudgy” Eye Gloss” Look
Posted by Beth on July 7th, 2010
It seems as though the dark, smudgy “eye gloss” look is finally starting to catch on, and whether you love it or hate it, celebrities like Zoe Saldana are making their own beauty statement, and getting our attention.
Here it was recently on Zoe:
For those who are not familiar with “eye gloss”, it means a gel-like product that is applied to your eyeshadow to give them a wet-sheen. Many makeup artists will use Vaseline especially on a shoot to create the same effect, but there are products available that are not as greasy or sticky, like Jane Iredale’s Eye Gloss.
A cream shadow followed by an eye gloss will also work. If you can’t find an eye gloss, a clear lip balm, or lip gloss will work, but you may have to pop into the ladies room once or twice to smooth the color out with your fingers.
To get the look, start by applying your eye color first and when you are happy with how they look, using your index finger, or concealer brush, dab on enough eye gloss (or Vaseline, lip balm) to cover the lid. You can set them with a loose translucent powder, or leave as is.
We love this look, but want to know what you think? Are you into it the gloss finish, or is a classic smoky eye look more your speed?
We would love to discuss!
