For actress Vanessa Redgrave, life has been anything but perfect the past several years.  She has suffered many losses, including sister Lynn, brother Corin and daughter Natasha.  Now she stars in Letters to Juliet and rekindles a love that has followed her for decades.

Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave reunite

Vanessa and Franco first met 44 years ago, 1967, when she played Guenevere opposite his Lancelot in the musical Camelot. It wasn’t love at first sight according to Nero.  “When I first laid eyes on Vanessa, she had on big glasses, no makeup, wore jeans with holes and had 2 young children hanging onto her.  I even asked the director if he was sure she was right for the part.”  Several days later Nero received a letter inviting him to dinner at Vanessa’s house and was greeted by a beautiful lady.  He was taken back by the discovery that the woman at the door was in fact Vanessa.  Needless to say, they began their love affair and in 1969, had a son named Carlo who is now a director/screen writer.

After the miscarriage of their second child together, the two lovers parted and for 3 decades, Nero remained in Italy making many films while Redgrave became the legendary actress we all know and love.  Cut to the 90′s where both were still living separate lives.  They reconnected as friends and eventually become much more.  Since 2006, they have been celebrating their love with family and friends and enjoy a good spar every now and then!

It’s so wonderful to hear stories of love that never dies…Best to both Franco and Vanessa:)
