Over the years I have noticed that many celebrities who were once full figured gals, have seemed to disappear into the Red Carpet.  No longer are they regarded to as “normal,” they are now considered quite thin!  What is it about becoming a star that makes these women hire a personal trainer, change their diet to eating rabbit food, and constantly focused on how they look on camera.  I know the camera puts an extra 10 pounds on you, but let me tell you, some of these gals need it now!!!

Long ago and far away, I met Jennifer Aniston at Gold’s Gym in Hollywood.  Friends had just gotten picked up and she was thrilled to be part of the cast.  We spoke briefly in the locker room and I noticed, being a female, that she had a lovely figure with some meat on her bones.  Once the show took off that meat on her bones was gone…Don’t get me wrong, she looks great but she didn’t have to make such an extreme adjustment to stardom.

Another one of my favorite female celebs is Cameron Diaz. If you look back at her first film roll where she played the sexy hot gal sporting long muscular legs in The Mask, you will notice that she too had some meat on her bones that has slowly disappeared since her celebrity status came about.

The list goes on…and try finding a photo of any of these now celebs looking “normal.” I searched and searched…Let me know if you have better luck!  And now Tori Spelling has joined the group.  She claims that she had the Swine Flu this winter and that is the cause behind her ultra this look.   Maybe it is so…but, it doesn’t look good.  I’ve been naturally thin my entire life and the camera puts some weight on me too, but I’m not going to suddenly stop eating my ice cream and cookies…NO WAY!  So, stop sending this message to the young girls of today…It’s great to exercise…in fact it is essential to your health.  But make sure to moderate your eating.  You do not have to stop eating the foods you love.  My mother has always said, “anything in moderation, won’t kill you.” That has been my motto since I was 15 years old.

So, now I will get off my soap box and hope that all of you gals out there enjoy life and food in moderation.  Being thin isn’t always healthy…Not to mention that people will talk behind your back when you leave a room.  Being thin makes people uncomfortable!  Why, I don’t know…but be healthy first…:)

Before you head to the sandy white beach, make sure you have the following essential items in your overflowing beach bag…

1.  Sunscreen – Never, I repeat, never leave home without it…It will save your skin and possibly your life from skin cancer.  I suggest applying before you leave the house and reapplying after a few hours.  If you plan on going into the water make sure you use waterproof/sport spf of at least 20 or higher.  Even though it is waterproof, you will still need to reapply.

2.  A big floppy hat to keep the sun directly off your face and to reduce the aging process.  I promise, you will thank me years from now when your skin still looks great at 40!

3.  A big beach blanket that repels sand.  If you have kids or are near kids, they tend to always either walk across your blanket with wet sandy feet or sit on your blanket with wet sandy bodies!  No, you can’t get around the sand, but why not be able to easily dust some of it off where you are laying?  I find old shower curtains to work the best.  AN old trick I learned from my girlfriend Donna Day Greenberg!

4.  Sand Toys to keep the kids busy so you can read at least 1 page of that novel you’ve been dieing to read all year!  Who knows, you might even want to help the kids build a sand castle…

5.  Food - Bring plenty of it.  People tend to get peckish when out in the fresh clean air.  Especially kids…

6.  Sunglasses…of course…Make sure they wrap around your face blocking your entire eye area since this is the most delicate part of your face and wrinkles the fastest…

7.  A first aid kit - someone always manages to get hurt on the beach…whether they step on a broken shell or get knocked over by a wave…

8.  Towels - bring more than necessary…they get wet and sandy very quickly.  There is nothing worse then drying yourself off with wet sand…LOL

9.  A GPS System for tracking kids and grown ups who wander along the beach and get lost…This happened to a family in Malibu…not only 1 kid went missing, but once they found that one, the other one also went missing.  Yes, they found him…all the way at the other end of the beach!

10.  Clean Clothes for the long drive home…If you are the designated driver, make sure to have a caffeine drink to keep you alert at the wheel.  All that fresh air and relaxation can cause you to cat nap at the wheel!

Get ready for a fun filled summer at the beach!

Cat eyeliner never seems to go out of style, and for a good reason. It’s sexy, doesn’t take more than a few minutes to do, and looks good all year long.

What you may not know, is that the super popular winged eyeliner was made famous by women in Egypt and Mesopotamia to help keep annoying sand gnats from flying into their eyes. Trend setting pharaohs like Cleopatra were the first to turn up their eye liner, and thanks to cat-eye lovers like Lauren Conrad, Angelina Jolie, and Nicole Richie, the look is as popular today as it ever was.

According to Los Angeles-based makeup artist Beth Bender, and creator of the Get in Line Eyeliner Kit, cat-eyes have remained in style because the technique gives round eyes an elongated look, while also  helping larger eyes to appear smaller. Bender is regularly asked to create cat-eyes for a variety of occasions, including celebrity & red carpet events, editorial, film, and private clients.

“Younger women just beginning to wear eyeliner especially love this look,” she says. “It works for day or night, and is easy to do in just a few steps.”

The quickest way to get the look yourself is by using an eyeliner stencil. Less steps, less mess, and instant cat eyes.

Start: by placing the stencil marked ‘Cat Eye’ over your closed eye, and then opening with your lashes poking through the eye shape cut out of stencil.

Next: Using the fuller end of brush (slightly dampened) press into your color, and sweep along the cat eye shape. Make sure to press up into the point of stencil to ensure the perfect winged effect. If you desire a thicker line, Bender suggests placing the stencil slightly higher before applying your shadow.

To finish the look: Starting at the base of your lashes, apply a black-black mascara and move the color all the way up to the tips. You can apply 2 coats if you desire.

Beth’s favorite beauty tips: Using an eyeliner sealant mixed with your eyeshadow will give your cat eyes even more staying power.

For a more dramatic look: create the cat eye shape using your stencil and powder shadow, and go over them with a Gel Eyeliner (as seen here on Nicole Richie).
