Layered Hair: In or Out?
Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on May 18th, 2010
When it comes to hair styles, one of the most popular for years has been a layered cut. Long and sexy, short and shagged, and of course our favorite, soft and feathered made famous by Farrah Fawcett. But when hairstylist Mark Townsend of the new Marie Robinson Salon in New York City declared he was over layers, BSW wanted to know why?
“I’m not really into layers right now,” said Townsend. “They can look a little ’90s.” Instead, he recommends that clients such as Ashley Olsen go light on layers, a technique that he says makes hair look fuller and healthier. “I even like it when the hair looks heavy at the bottom,” he says.
To give your hair fullness at home, Townsend is in favor of hot rollers, and suggests wrapping just the bottom of your hair around the tool for subtle volume, and going all the way up to the scalp for more lift. We tried both, and preferred the all the way up to the scalp better, but we do love our layers even if they seem a bit 90s’.
