Shakespeare’s infamous love story about Romeo and Juliet published in 1596, is about two young lovers whose families are at odds.  As this historic play unfolds, we see both the joy as well as the pain of love and how it sometimes ends in tragedy leaving many questions unanswered.

Romeo and Juliet

Over the course of  hundreds of years, many people looking for love answers have left letters by Juliet’s memorial in Verona, Italy, eagerly waiting for a reply.  In 1937, Ettore Solimani, decided to answer them.  As of today, this Italian town gets over 7,000 letters a year from around the world.  In 1990, Marinella Fedrigoli, became the first on site secretary of Juliet’s Club.  The entire team of volunteer writers includes 10 women and 2 men.  Marinella told BSW that the story was so sad yet inspirational since the 2 young lovers fought for their love.  However, Juliet’s tragic life serves as a glimmer of hope for others.

Newly released Letters to Juliet, starring Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgrave, is based on the premise of the letters written over the years and left at Juliet’s memorial.  You can send letters to info@julietclub.com or mail a letter to Juliet, Verona. Who knows…maybe you’ll get the answer you’ve been waiting for…

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 18th May 2010

If sultry smoky eyes for summer are what you crave, then take your cue from Diane Kruger. Not only do her eyes exude sultry, and sexy, they scream it! Smoky eyes don’t always have to be dark to make a statement. Coppery, gold, and warm earth tones work just as beautifully.

get Diane Kruger's smoky eyes

Our celebrity makeup guru Beth Bender says to get Diane’s look with ease, start by Lining the eyes with a dark gray, or brown eyeliner, and use warm golden, and bronze shadows in place of blacks, and grays to complement your  coloring. “You can sweep the hues beneath your lower lashline and up to the crease on your upper lids” says Beth which will also allow the eyeliner to bleed into the shadow creating a more smoldering effect.

She suggest her SGB Smoky Eye Kit that includes a brown-bronze, golden-peach, and gold shimmer shadow for gorgeous summer smoky eyes. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils are the perfect eyeliners with plenty of colors to choose from, and they stay put all day long.

The SGB Smoky Eye Kit is available at bethbenderbeauty.com Receive a FREE full size beauty product with every online purchase, and a Travel size Bungalow Bronzing Set when you spend $50 or more.

Layered Hair: In or Out?

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 18th May 2010

When it comes to hair styles, one of the most popular for years has been a layered cut. Long and sexy, short and shagged, and of course our favorite, soft and feathered made famous by Farrah Fawcett. But when hairstylist Mark Townsend of the new Marie Robinson Salon in New York City declared he was over layers, BSW wanted to know why?

HairLayer

“I’m not really into layers right now,” said Townsend. “They can look a little ’90s.” Instead, he recommends that clients such as Ashley Olsen go light on layers, a technique that he says makes hair look fuller and healthier. “I even like it when the hair looks heavy at the bottom,” he says.

To give your hair fullness at home, Townsend is in favor of hot rollers, and suggests wrapping just the bottom of your hair around the tool for subtle volume, and going all the way up to the scalp for more lift. We tried both, and preferred the all the way up to the scalp better, but we do love our layers even if they seem a bit 90s’.

Tatum O’Neal Resolves Family Issues With Father Ryan O’Neal

Posted by Te-see on 18th May 2010

This dynamic father/daughter duo has been estranged for over 2 decades.  Thanks to Tatum’s son Sean 22, who made a call to his grandfather Ryan, the two have finally been reunited and are slowly putting the puzzle back to their broken relationship.

In 1974, the two starred together in Paper Moon, where Tatum age 10, made history as being the youngest ever Oscar winner.  It wasn’t long after this that she started using drugs causing well publicized headlines for decades that emphasized her battle and caused her much pain.  When Tatum was 16, Ryan left her and her siblings to move in with Farrah Fawcett, something she never thought she could forgive her father for.  Tatum told BSW “that the funny thing is, Farrah’s death brought us back together.  I had no real family left and neither did he.“  Tatum’s mom actress Joanna Moore, died in 1997, which again set her back.  In 2008, Tatum was arrested in Manhattan for trying to buy crack cocaine.  One of her lowest points which was the final catalyst for making her stay committed to her 12 step program.

The two met for lunch in Malibu and after a few awkward moments, started relaxing into a nice paced conversation.  According to Tatum, if it wasn’t for her kids being her support system, she could never have survived all that she has been through.  All three of her children, Kevin, 24, Sean, 22, and Emily, 19, are from her ex-husband, John McEnroe.  He raised them for 8 years during a terrible custody battle that Tatum claims took the sail out of her wings. But all is well now, says Tatum.  Her father who she has always dearly loved is back in her life for better or worse. The infamous father and daughter are starting over from the beginning.  No looking back…
