Selma Blair Goes For Smoky Under Eyes

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 28th May 2010

Actress Selma Blair put a new twist on the classic smoky eye at the premiere of Get Him to the Greek in Los Angeles. Instead of your typical smoldering color across the eyelid she opted for doing smoky under the eye, and it definitely got our attention!

Selma Blair smoky under eyes

To get the look, celebrity makeup artist beth bender suggests using an eyeshadow in a gunmetal metallic, or shimmer to give the illusion of a smoky eyelid. Use a black, or even dark violet eyeliner to accentuate the lashes and give them extra density. Make sure to sweep the color underneath the eye using a medium size shadow brush, and once you are finished applying all color, then add your concealer.  The finished look is fresh, unexpected and very, very sexy.

Check out the BFF Smoky Eye Kit for creating this look with ease.

Memorial Day Sun Ready Tips

Posted by Te-see on 27th May 2010

Hey all!  It’s the first long weekend of Spring and I’m sure some of you are heading to the beach or will be outdoors exposed to the sun.  With that said, make sure you have the right type of SPF to keep those warm yet harmful rays off your face…And don’t forget your sunglasses and big old floppy hat!

Keep covered when in the sun!!!

Keep covered when in the sun!!!

No, not always the most stylish look but your skin will thank you…The most important ingredients in your sunscreen are titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and avobenzone.  You want to block out the UVA/UVB rays that cause all the damage.  Many SPF’s ( sun protection factor) need to be reapplied every few hours.  However, a new product called Helioplex, developed by Johnson and Johnson, keeps the active ingredients in sunscreen from breaking down and you won’t have to reapply for up to 4 hours!

So, you can relax when you are out and about…no need to set an alarm on your cell to remind yourself to reapply…those days are over…And you don’t have to spend a lot of money for good sunscreen.  Try to find one that doesn’t make your skin look pasty white…not a good look (unless you are pasty white!) It needs to absorb well into your skin and don’t skimp on the amount.  You’ll want to cover every cell that gets exposed to the sun.  This is the only skin you’ll have in this life time, so protect it!

How To Create Sexy Sunkissed Eyes

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 26th May 2010

As if by some unspoken beauty secret, sunkissed, shimmery eyelids are having a big moment. Especially with the warm weather around the corner, it feels so natural to want your lids to glisten with gold and bronze.

To create this look our go-to-girl for beauty, celebrity artist beth bender recommends using a medium-size shadow brush to apply a gold shadow on the lid, and in the crease. Use your fingers to pat the color down and add more if you desire. Next, using a tapered eyeliner brush, apply the same shadow right below your lower lash line. Add a brown matte or shimmer shadow in the crease and underneath, and finish with a soft pink-gold shimmer over the entire eyelid to soften the brown, and finish the look.

CharlizeTheron

You can accent the outer corners with a gel eyeliner in brown, applying along the lashline. Gold Digger, or The SGB Smoky Eye Kit are both great for creating a sunkissed smoky eye. Buy either of these kits, and receive a FREE Brown Gel Eyeliner with your order.

Get The Look: Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sexy Waves

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 26th May 2010

Is it my imagination or is Sarah Jessica Parkers hair getting better with age?  Don’t believe me? Then check out this photo of her at last night’s NYC Sex and The City 2 Premiere.

I have always loved her hair, but this new buttery blonde color with it’s bleached-out ends, darker crown, and ‘happy highlights’ were the perfect compliment to her undone waves. How do you get those sexy waves you ask?

Well it’s really quite easy, says celebrity hairstylist Martin, of the Prive Salon NYC & Los Angeles. Martin who has done more than his share of Botticelli waves says to get the look, instead of clipping the hair with a curling iron, wrap random sections of hair around the barrel and hold in place for at least 15 seconds.

SJP

That’s right, you don’t actually clip the hair and roll it up. And he recommends these products and tools:

Hot Tools curling irons in one-inch, 3/4-inch, and 3/8-inch sizes:“These are ideal because they get quite hot, which helps set the curls so they don’t droop later,” Martin says. Always use the larger iron on face-framing layers. “You want bigger, looser curls in front to make them seem natural,” he says.

Prive Shine Serum: “For the shiniest curls, I work a few drops of this serum through soaking-wet hair—because once hair begins to dry, frizz can start,” he says.

Prive Finishing Hair Spray: “If a spray is too dense and wet, it can weigh down curls,” says Martin. “This one is a fine mist, and the finishing step that holds curls and waves in place.”

And there you have it, great tips for achieveing the sexiest curls ever!

Get Sultry Smoky Eyes In Blues For Spring

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 25th May 2010

When it comes to colorful eye makeup this spring, overdoing it is an understatement, and can make the difference between looking like you mistook your blush for eyeshadow, or getting it just right. When working with brighter, stronger hues, it’s always best to layer the color so you get the perfect application.

OntheListpost

Celebrity make-up artist and beauty expert beth bender suggests starting first by lining your eyes with a waterproof black pencil, her favorite is benefit’s BADgal eyeliner, followed by rimming the eyes with a light blue pencil. Continue by sweeping your choice of a blue-green shimmer shadow, or bright blue shimmer shadow over your lids. “Shimmer shadows are a lot easier to work with and for first timers will be easier to blend if the color becomes too intense” say beth. “I like to use the On the List, or Girls Night Out kits because they include softer shades that allow you to build the color, and the shimmers are easier to apply.”

Make sure to avoid getting too close to the brows, which can end up looking very theatrical and definitely not glamorous. Instead apply a lighter shimmer shadow on the browbone blending into the crease.

Beth’s Beauty Tip: “I like to use my fingers to apply the first layer of color, especially if it’s a shimmer and then go back and blend with a brush”.  Use a Q-tip with a drop of eye cream to clean up any eyeshadow that may have fallen, and before applying concealer. You can add a few individual lashes at the ends of each eye for added glamour.”

Check out both Smoky Eyeshadow kits and don’t forget to shop and drop your 2 FREE beauty products.

Lauren Conrad’s Beauty Must-Haves

Posted by The Girls in the BSW Beauty Dept. on 25th May 2010

Lauren Conrad has come such a long way from her start in reality TV. A hot new selling book, a clothing line, and the face of mark cosmetics keep her very busy, but not when it comes to sharing her favorite beauty must-haves. She reveals the secret behind her perfect golden glow in the latest issue of Instyle. “I have tried at least 20 self-tanners! Dior makes a great one that isn’t too orange,” she tells the magazine. “I always test a small area that I can cover up if need be. It is all trial and error.”

LaurenConrad

The former Hills star doesn’t bat a beauty lash when it comes to her face, and has indulged in oxygen facials and laser hair removal, saying she’s done everything, including her at-home tanning session, and manicures which she also does herself.

To find out which beauty products she can’t live without, check out this months issue of InStyle.
