The Flatiron District Gets A Hot New Salon

For anyone wishing to spot a celebrity while in New York City, may we suggest the entrance to 155 Fifth Avenue, and the new address of The Marie Robinson Salon, named for the top hair colorist, and former co-worker to Sally Hershberger. Opening last week in the city’s Flatiron district, and the new home to the dozens of celebs who are loyal clients of Marie’s.

Hair Colorist Marie Robinson's new salon

Even if you’re not familiar with Marie Robinson by name, you’ve definitely seen her work everywhere. Her A-list clients include Anne Hathaway, Rachel McAdams, Natalie Portman, Liv Tyler, and Uma Thurman, to name a few. But this is one lady who hasn’t let it get to her head. Not only will she be working in the salon full time and taking clients, but is one of the nicest women we have ever met.

Also refreshing are her prices. Although some might still find them not within their budget. Robinson’s rate begins at $200 for a single-process color and $300 for highlights. Compared to other high profile stylists who are charging three times that amount, I would say this is a bargain.

The new 5,000-sq ft. salon is a haven, with light-filled space and washed-wood floors, with a soft blue and gray decor. Her impressive team of hairstylists  includes Tommy Buckett (who works with Ashley Olsen), Ryan Trygstad (who works with Sandra Bullock), and Danilo, Gwen Stefani’s longtime hairstylist and colorist, who will be working out of the salon whenever he’s in New York.

To make an appointment, call 212-358-7780, and let us know if you run into to any familiar faces:-)

Actress Dixie Carter Takes Her Last Bow

Posted by Beth on 16th April 2010

Let me just start by saying how much I loved Dixie Carter, and how sad I was to hear of her passing. Best known for her role as “Julia Sugerbaker” on the hit sitcom Designing Women, and a career that spanned over 30 years, including an Emmy nomination for her role on Desperate Housewives. She was not only talented, but she was funny, knew how to have a good time, and was one of the nicest gals I have ever met.

Dixie Carter

Her southern drawl, beautiful smile, and sassy attitude had you entranced whenever she walked in a room, and you couldn’t help but fall in love with her. I had the pleasure of meeting Dixie years ago when my then husband, drummer Ray Marchica was working with her at the Carlyle Hotel in New York. She was doing a short engagement there with a small band and singing some of her favorite songs to a small intimate audience. Afterward’s we joined Dixie and her husband Hal in their room for a little party, and it was then I knew, this was one gal I would never forget.

Dixie Carter & Hal Holbrook

She loved to have fun, and always had a smile for you that made you feel like you were old friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, husband Hal, and her two daughters Mary Dixie, and Ginna.

We will miss you so much Miss Dixie!

Posted by Te-see on 16th April 2010

This summer most of us will head to the beach…And even though we are careful to cover up our skin with the proper SPF and reapply throughout the day, moisture still seeps out of our pores leaving skin dry and brittle.  Not good…
