For the premiere of Little Fockers in New York City, Jessica Alba turned up the heat with over-the-top sexy eye fringe and cat eyeliner. If you want a similar impact, without the hassle of applying false lashes, instead dust them with a translucent powder before applying mascara. The powder will give your lashes extra clinging power, while the cat eyeliner with add major drama to your look.

We asked celebrity makeup artist Beth Bender of beth bender beauty for a few tips on how to make your eyes stand out.

“Cat Eyeliner is perfect for day or night, red carpet or not.” says Bender, “and just as effective as a sultry smoky eye for turning heads.”

STEP ONE: Using a cat eye shadow stencil, place along eyelid and sweep color across the lid. For a thicker, and more winged out line, place the stencil slightly above the lid and upward.

Wipe the stencil clean with a tissue and repeat the same steps on the other eye.

STEP TWO: Once you have created your cat eyeliner, go over it with a gel liner to set the color and keep it from smudging.

STEP THREE: Dust the lashes with a translucent powder, and finish with two coats of black mascara on top lashes, using whatever is left on the wand to define lower lashes.

“Natalie’s look in the movie is starkly dramatic, and, while gorgeous on screen, may be too severe in real life.” said Mancuso. “Make the ballerina bun your own by playing with different heights and varying degrees of tightness until you find the look that is most flattering.”

PREP:

• This style works best on second-day hair.  The natural oils from your scalp act as a natural smoothing agent and help this sleek style stay in place.  So skip the shampoo today.
• Slightly dampen hair and run a dime-size amount of Nexxus Sleek Finish Frizz Taming Silkening Lotion to lock-out frizz and flyaways.

STYLE:

• Brush hair neatly back off your face and secure in a high ponytail right where you want the bun to be.

• Tuck ends in and use bobby pins to secure.

FINISH:

Celebrity stylist Creighton Bowman created this hairstyle which I find almost impossible to replicate. I’m going to have to study these directions and follow them to create a cool chignon for the holidays. Read up to see how we can look glamorous for all the black tie cocktail parties we must attend…

“First, I prepped hair with René Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo for extra volume. (this, I can

do and I love dry shampoo.)

Next, I created three sections, lifted and pinned top two sections of hair at top of head and pulled lower section back into a ponytail. The ponytail is secured above the nape of the neck with an elastic band. (I might need a second set of hands but I’ll give it a whirl) Then I unpinned top sections and lightly back-combed hair, one section at a time, starting with the section at the back of the head. (I  have an awesome teasing comb to do this trick!)

After wrapping ends of back section around the ponytail, I sprayed the ponytail with René Furterer new Vegetal Finishing Spray. I continued winding ends of back section around the ponytail, blending the two to create a full chignon. (I need thicker hair!) Next, I unpinned the front section. After lightly back-combing the section, I brushed it back, working ends into a chignon and pinning securely.

FINISH:

To smooth flyaways, I applied René Furterer new Modeling Paste to palms of hands and ran palms lightly over hair. For long-lasting natural hold, I misted hair with René Furterer new Vegetal Finishing Spray. (I love this hairspray, it holds nicely without drying hair out).”

Good luck on creating a lovely chignon.  I think I almost have it right!

I don’t know about you, but I have very fine hair:(  Thank God it’s curly or I would feel bald!  And since I decided to remove my hair extensions my already fine hair looks and feels even thinner…UGH!

I’m loving Gwen Stefani’s hair and makeup here. With her dark eye color, she can get away with that strong brow. Her trademark red lips gives the look a retro feel and her updo just completes the over all look, a modern take on 1960’s glamour. Love it!
