Believe it or not girls…the Spring hair trend is for luscious candy colors.  Some of them are so delicious you just might want to eat them…but I don’t recommend that!

CJ Cassaday is creating contrasting blonde’s for summer that are so rich they resemble dessert.  A rich toffee based color with honey highlights for a dramatic effect can turn into a softer lighter blonde as the summer sun fades your hair color at the beach.  Two summer looks for the price of one!

If you are looking for a more natural look you might want to try a more subtle contrast of carmel undertones with vanilla highlights.  And all you LA gals, you can never get too blonde so baby blonde highlights might be for you!  Unfortunately, the economy does make an impact on beauty so the trend is natural placement of highlights that grow out softer.  The more bold and chunky highlights from the 90′s is slowly fading…(no pun intended…)

Hey, girls…it’s that time of year again.  The dreaded shedding off of winter clothes and slipping into a swimsuit…UGH!!!  I love the summer but I’m not exactly crazy about wearing a swimsuit.  Not to mention that I have yet to find a one piece that is made to fit a slender, small breasted gal like myself.

As I was surfing the web I found some hot swimsuits by Urban Original that caught my eye.  Oh, to be young…they were rather sexy…but why not girls…grab your BFF and try one on!  A cocktail or two will help make this dreaded season more fun.

This is one of my favorites.  I love the choice of colors, the low neck line that dips down just above the belly button and the tiny brass buckle that keeps your breasts from falling out of the suit!  “I just wish I had cleavage like this model.  Oh, well…can’t have everything…”

Have fun shopping gals.  Just remember, ignore the lighting in your dressing room…I repeat…IGNORE the lighting…it will make you run out of the store screaming!!!

What exactly is Rosacea?  I met with  Anouchka Ferrer, a licensed esthetician with 30 years in the skin care industry, to get the real scoop…First of all, Anouchka made it very clear that “it is not acne.” Understandably, there is a lot of confusion between rosacea & acne because they often look alike.  Even though, as it progresses, rosacea develops papules and pustules creating pimples that resemble acne.  Acne is actually a disorder of the sebaceous gland accompanied by blackheads and whiteheads over the face, neck, decollete and back.  Rosacea is a vascular disease that affects only the face and displays no blackheads.  Unfortunately, some people are genetically predisposed to Rosacea like those with thin fragile skin who have an Irish, English or Scottish background.  Lately, more and more people seem to be affected as well, even those with a light olive complexion.

Essentially, we still don’t know what causes Rosacea. However, we do know that it is a weakness of the capillaries which causes them to become permanently dilated over time.  Rosacea appears in a butterfly shape on the cheeks, chin, forehead and nose.  It is characterized by a persistent redness & flushing, scaliness & papules.  People with Rosacea should not smoke since smoking destroys Vitamin C & tightens capillaries which prevents circulation of the blood.  Anouchka also recommends avoiding the sun at all cost, always wear SPF, avoid hot showers, baths, saunas, and spicy foods.

Here is Anouchka’s Facial Regiment for anyone with Rosacea or even a mild case:   Use a gentle cleanser, followed by a toner without alcohol or any aggressive ingredients, and make sure to use creams with anti-inflammatory & anti-irritant ingredients (such as chamomile, licorice root extracts and allantoin).

Vitamin C, an antioxidant that promotes collagen synthesis is also very beneficial as it strengthens the capillaries and is vital in supporting the skins auto-immune system. Vitamin A is an anti-oxidant which normalizes cell turn over for Rosacea along with Vitamin E an anti-inflammatory & free radical catcher.  All help in alleviating rosacea conditions.

Pevonia, Kinerase and Dr. Grandel all offer excellent skincare products to help calm and to a certain extent, control Rosacea.  In extreme cases of rosacea, it is recommended to consult a dermatologist.

**Do not confuse rosacea with “couperose,” which is a very mild case of dilated capillaries on the cheeks and is not accompanied by a diffuse redness and flushing like rosacea.

Layering cheek makeup has become as popular as wearing lip liner and lipstick. This spring season, “become friends with your bronzer,” says celebrity makeup artist Beth Bender, who recommends Soak up the Sun Bronzer for light to medium complexions and Beachy Keen Bronzer for medium to dark.

To get J-Lo’s chiseled-cheek look, “Apply your bronzer around the outside of your face, sculpting around the features. Then finish by adding a soft peachy-tawny blush that has a hint of gold to the apple of your cheeks,” says Bender”. You always need a touch of color on the apple to get this natural glow. If you use only a bronzer it will make you complexion look flat.”

Beth’s Beauty Tip, “Always use a bigger brush to apply the bronzer, and a smaller one for the blush.” “The trick to getting the perfect bronzed cheeks is in the blending. The bronzer and blush should blend into each other naturally.”

Like the ever popular look of metallic’s in fashion, gilded eyelids are having a big moment as well. To create this look my sister Beth, and go-to girl for beauty recommends using a medium-size shadow brush to apply a gold shadow on the lid and up to the crease, leaving the brow bone bare. Next, using a tapered eyeliner brush, apply the same shadow right below your lower lash line.

Finish with black mascara on your top lashes, and if you are an eyeliner gal you can add either a touch of gel eyeliner, or powder to the outer corners of each eye. She recommends using eye shadows from one of the new kits for spring from beth bender beauty, Gold Digger in warm gold shimmer with peach infusion, soft cream pink shimmer, and cocoa for some added diva-glam.

Beth’s Insider Tip: If you’re not sure you can swing this look without making a mess, try using the eyeliner stencils included in the palette to guide you and help you to know exactly where to place color.

I can go 5 days without washing my hair because it’s so darn dry…on the other side of the coin sometimes I have to wash it more often to compensate all the product I put in my hair to keep it from looking dry & brittle.  UGH!!!  What a nightmare…

Another mistake with dry hair is to over condition it.  CJ Cassaday explains, “while it’s good to condition your hair, you need to have the right balance of moisture & protein in a conditioner.  Too much protein is usually found in repairing conditioners which can make your hair feel brittle.” So, what to do…what to do…

First of all you should switch up your shampoo and conditioner if you’ve been using it a long time.  Your hair will build up a tolerance and then all of the benefits of the product will exhaust themselves leaving your hair back to square one.  CJ recommends a moisturizing shampoo like L’eau de Mer Hydrating by Number 4 to be used along with L’eau de Mer Hydrating Conditioner. Both have built in Vitamin B5, C and liquid Vitality Complex with anti-aging properties and UV protection.  CJ also recommends a good hair trim every 8 weeks to keep your ends from splitting.

The end result…beautiful, shiny and healthy hair…
